The things people say ...

Just say you are glad they found something that works for them and that there are lots of variable that go into weight loss and many ways to be successful at it.0

Simon Cowell made me laugh out loud!! Ba ha ha ha!0

You know what though, I find that hearing people talk like that make YOU work harder. At least for me it does. People always think they know better, and for me to know that what they are saying makes no sense ( for example, a co worker eats a whole thing of honey garlic wings to herself and fries with gravy and liiiterally thinks its healthy because its potato and chicken ), I find that it makes my motivation and determination that much stronger.0

Erg. My cousin swears that atkins is the ONLY way to lose weight. And diet and exercise do not work fast enough for her. That .5 round a week is nothing. On atkins she can lose 7 pounds in three days.
But cannot stick to it longer than five days.
Binges, and then is back to square one.
To me something not sustainable over time. Is not working.
But. I choose not to talk to her about it now.
I will show her!0 -
Ignore. In one ear, out the other. Don't even let it register. Results don't lie.0

What do you say to these fanatics who are convinced that you should follow their theories?
Smile & Nod.
Make fun of her in your mind. It will help make the smile look genuine.
LOL this! Smile know that in 6 months you will be stronger your cardiopulmonary system will be more efficient and she'll have long given up on her little diet. Keep moving foward. Best revenge is success and happiness.0 -
Wow - I really love this one!!!Just say "You know, I think you're right. I'll start next month." Then, next month, find a reason why you shouldn't start until the month after.0

Glad that it's working out for you! Sometimes stealth is the way to go to prevent people trying harder to sabatoge you so they maintain their status quo (if you diet, for some reason it makes them feel guilty).
In my case, the friend that "only eats one meal a day" has been complaining and complaining about not losing weight. She asks me on a biweekly basis whether or not she looks like she gained any weight. Yet she doesn't listen to any of my advice! Makes for slightly awkward pauses whenever she asks if she has gained any weight.I haven't really told anyone I am on a 'diet' not that that is quite the right word. My mum and dad noticed, but I think dad was the only one who listened to the fact I am trying to eat more. I know people at work are starting to notice and my husband loves seeing me enjoy my food and the changes to my mood. He also says I look better an can cleary see I enjoy doing weights lol. He doesn't care as long as I am happy.
I will talk to people about food if they want, I like food and food conversations. But I won't tell people what to eat, maybe suggest stuff to try- eg this is really yummy, or have you even eaten. I had a conversation about nuts and seeds last night. But unless asked I won't or don't want to give/recieve diet advice.0 -
I AM THE CARDIO QUEEN! IT WORKS.0

I have a friend just like this. Any time I say I am doing something, for example, walking for cardio, weighlifting, jogging. "Its not enough dude, walking is bad. Losing 10 pounds a month is so bad and slow, you should be losing more" Its really the most horrible most annoying thing in the world. The sad part? He is a 350 pound guy also, I weigh about 265 atm. He always tries to put me down in any way possible to make himself look better. He does it in front of everyone also. Also when I first started dieting I would get a Mighty Kids Meal at Mcdonalds, instead of 2 mcdoubles, medium fries and dr pepper. When I started getting the mighty kids meal. "Why don't you just get 4 mcnuggets and no french fries?" Like seriously dude SHUT THE F***** UP It makes me soooooooooooooooooo madddddddd, like piisiiiiiisseeed. The other day I didn't go to gym "Oh, your gonna be just like me, I didn't go one day and never ever went again. I know your feelings and holy its the hardest not to say anything. I'm afraid one day I will explode.
Uh... yeah I would explode. What a douche. Just reading this makes me angry!0 -
Even if she were right (she's not), cardio is good for so many aspects of our physical and mental health, not just weight loss.0

My friend just adamantly told me that cardio is not good for weight loss. And pretty much told me that insanity will be a waste of time. I don't even know what to say to her regarding this ... She's strictly paleo and thinks that is the only way to go for weight loss. What do you say to these fanatics who are convinced that you should follow their theories?
Another friend keeps telling me about how she's not losing weight despite eating only one meal a day (which includes a pint of ice cream). Despite my efforts to tell her it's about calories in vs calories out, she doesn't listen to me either.0 -
