Well to start...Losing it fast means you will not learn how to lose it for good. Lose it fast? Gain it back faster. I have lost 53lbs. I did it in 2.5 years NOT 6 months..... I have done it eating all my favorite things and NOT living off carrotts and lettus. More important than exercise is the choices you make on your food. Make a better choice most of the time and you will see results. Pick your most important meal to you and plan that for your high calorie meal. My most important is Dinner so I make better choices for breakfast and lunch knowing I will have alot of calories for Dinner. Days i want more calories I exercise. Better decisions include eating the most food for the least amount of calories. You could choose a hot pocket for lunch for 280 calories, however my stomach wouldnt even feel that. So then I wasted 280 calories on still being hungry. Instead go to Subway eat a 6" veggie sub with light mayo and all the veggies you want for 280 calories and now Im satisfied. Its all about getting the most food for the least calories intake MOST of the time, that way you are never hungry. However, if i want fries....I eat fries, if i want beer, i drink beer, But i make sure I dont eat all the junk together the same day. Its a balance you have to learn to live with. Not rush to the finsh line because there is NO finsh line. Its for life!

Hello, Glad you found your way to MFP!
The way to get healthy and/or lose weight is not just about diet and exercise. You have to get your mind in the right place first and foremost, or you will find this process extrememly difficult. Make a mental commitment to yourself to get healthy. List reasons why you must make this change and refer to them to give you strength during times of weakness.

When I started, I had to make some major changes in my life. Some of them were not easy or fun. Take a long look at yourself and identify the triggers that have caused you to be where you are at. My triggers were certain friends, certain foods, and certain environments. For example, I had to tell all my friends that I will not be drinking anything or eating certain foods for a month. At first I thought I had the willpower to go out with them and not indulge myself. I found out that as the night went on it was harder for me to sit there and not have a glass of wine, or pick up a cheese stick or two. I eventually made a decision to stop going out for awhile. I had to seperate myself from all these temptations until I got both my willpower and my confidence built up. I also identified that I tended to buy junk food if I went shopping on an empty stomach...I turned off the TV...Started taking kickboxing classes, etc. Most importantly, I removed all unhealthy snack foods from my house. At first I thought...well that's not fair to everyone else. "my children shouldn't be banned from eating those things" I'd say. Then somone on here said that "if I encourage them to eat unhealthy foods as children, they will most likely eat them as an adult. I would be setting them up to be in the same situation I am in now. How fair is that?" That really hit home for me.

You have to change your whole perspective on how you see food. Food is 80% of the problem when we are overweight, exercise is only 20%...so the emphasis should be more on food that you eat and how much you consume. I have been on a journey of research both to identify why I crave the foods I do, and to gain knowledge about nutrition in general. MFP helped me so much. I was shocked at first of the calories I had been consuming. Tracking everything really gives you a wake up call. Then I found another quote on here that release me from other forms of guilt I would use an excuse not to eat right or exercise..."In fitness and health, ME FIRST is not just ok, it is necessary" Keep that quote with you because is absolutely true. It's a lot of little steps at first, but you can do this! Good luck.
