HELP! Weight loss, then weight gain.. what is going on!?

Hi everyone,
Im looking for some help here- I've been using MFP for 3 weeks now and am enjoying it. I made the decision to do something about my weight gain.. I've been married just a year to date and in that time I have gained 4 Kilos. That is quite significant for me!!! I am a generally healthy person and like to take care of myself, and always said that I never wanted to let myself go once I was married.
I seen this slowly happening so I decided to pull my head out.
Tracking is great and works for me. I am very active and exercise between 5 - 6 times a week. I wear a Polar HRM so the accuracy of the calorie output is spot on. I eat mostly clean foods, big salads full of nuts and proteins, etc.
My whole issue is (and I am completely baffled about this!) is I weight in my first week at 69.4 (yikes). Second week was 68.3 (i was happy with this!) then this morning, I get on those dreadful scales to see 69.3!!!! WHAT!!!
I dont understand what is going on, as I've noticed a difference in my clothes (looser) and in general. I haven't been doing any extensive weight lifting, so I dont believe this gain is muscle or anything like th at... Im just completely flabbergasted and deflated.
I thought perhaps it could also be my scales (i was getting different readings all over the place) so I got a new battery today in hopes that this is all issues with my scales...
but at the same time maybe its not? Does anyone have any clue in regards to this???
Thankkkssss

Take your neck , torso and hip measurements you may be gaining more muscle tone and that is a good thing :-)0

hmmm thats probably a good idea..
where does it end though? If i keep getting muscle, do i keep gaining weight!? Until I look like the hulk?? :-)
That could be the reason, at the same time, like I said, i haven't really dont anything extra with my exercise except be more consisntent with it (before i was slack, exercising 2-3 week for 45, and now i go 5-6 for a hour, burning between 400-700 a session).
I should mention that I eat well, when I exercise extensively I eat 1500-1600 calories..0 -
There are lots of reasons to step away from the scales - they lie!
The first week was probably water weight that you lost. Then following your increase in exercise intensity you muscles are now holding onto fluids as the repair/rebuild form the increased stress of your workouts. This is normal. Get out the tale measure - record your measurements and follow those rather than the number on the scale. How do your cloths fit - as you lose fat you will lose inches not necessarily pounds!
Search the boards there are plenty of threads that address this - and how you can look so much smaller/better/sculpted when you gain fitness and muscle definition despite the fact that the number on the scale can go up. Look at your body fat percent/ body composition as you gauge of success not the number on the scale.
Also you do not have the right hormones to become the "hulk" You will just get tighter, leaner better looking!0 -
It doesn't sound like you're eating enough on your workout days. Even if you burn on the low amount, 400 and eat the high amount, 1600, you only net 1200. That should be a minimum. On the days where you burn 700 but only eat 1500? You're netting 800. That's much too low. Yes, you may not feel hungry. But the only adults that have a BMR that low are dead. Your body WILL hold onto fat stores if you do not feed it enough. Try adding more calorie dense foods - nuts, nut butters, avocados, cheese, gasp, BREAD - on your workout days. I think you'll start seeing the scale move in the right direction.
Good luck.0 -
Thanks all for the advice.
I think im going to do it- not weigh myself weekly and just concentrate on how I look and feel! Thanks..
Thank you Chanliteheart - i definitely do eat alot, if I'm hungry, then I will eat, and always healthy snacks (avacado on toast is my fav!) So i definitely dont feel deprived in that sense.
Thanks again0
