Question about beach / indoor volleyball calories

Hi, I am trying again... Anyhow I have a question about why the calorie count per hour for competitive indoor volleyball is greater than the calorie count for beach volleyball. I play competitively in both indoor and beach and from my experience, beach is a much greater workout. We play continuously for several hours, chase the ball down the beach and are in deep Michigan beach sand. When I am done with several hours outdoors I feel much more like jello than indoor for the same time. Intensity is actually greater outdoors I would think as it is harder to move in sand. Any thoughts?

Been a while since I've played beach.
Hard to compare the two as they are so fundamentally different and both are such a fantastic game and workout.
But I did a bit of digging on at least one site it says the opposite, beach almost burns twice the amount of cals. But really all they are is just calculations based off of a average. How can they tell what level or intensity you are at.

According to my HRM playing indoor at a competitive level (Ex-college players) I burn anywhere from 800-1000+ calories an hour. (Yes it is probably high but I'm more interested in the Heart Rate information). Have not done it with Beach as I've been out with injuries (perhaps this summer).

Either way, I think if you are playing at a high intensity whether in or out doors, you are burning a crap load of calories and playing an awesome game.

Thanks... that is what I thought about sand being crazy hard to move in. I try really hard to keep moving the whole time, indoors or out. I usually chase the ball down the beach just to make sure. That is if I'm not already dying. :P I am only 5'4" so I have to work really hard to keep up with the big guys.

Hope you can play this summer! My husband and I play together and are thinking about trying the tournaments again this summer. We are low Bs in the competition. I can't block. :P

Anyway Volleyball is the bestest sport! :)

Yes, super crazy to move in. I know when I was in college we played beach to keep our vertical and speed up in the off season.

I may go and play some fun tourny's potentially or even just for fun. I wished I lived in a place that had an actual beach, anything that we have is all man made (was made/designed) specifically for the world masters in 2009; That and I'm fundamentally an indoor player, not sure how my knee would take the uneven-ness of the terrain but will certainly give it a whirl again.
