Too much protein?

I have noticed that many times I am under my daily calorie, fat and carbs goals but over on protein. Not drastically over or anything, usually within 10g, sometimes more. I understand that it is important to eat well proportioned meals, but also know there is debate about the proper percentages e.g. 40/30/30 etc. I guess from my perspective, I would be concerned if I were over on carbs or fat, but to me being over on protein isn't a big deal. Does anyone know of a potential downside?

Protein is what your muscles are made of...Not getting enough protein will result in your body taking it from your muscles therefore breaking your muscles down. As long as its not drastic you don't have anything to worry about....I also go over my protien daily but I am also trying to buil a little muscle while I lose weight......Therefore I am burning my protein......

Doesn't sound drastic I wouldn't worry too much about it :)

If you are working out then this small difference is not big deal. I agree with others. don't worry about it

Yes one can have too much protein. 10g over does not sound like too much though. MFP usually sets it mild. I was seeing a sports nutritionist who had me on 110g of protein a day. Result: drastic kidney function decline. Now I can only have 45g per day. Everyone always worries in America we aren't getting enough protein. Trust me we are. Even on a vegetarian diet I didn't have a problem getting in my protein.
Word of thumb: its always about balance.
