No sweets for 4o days Lent challenge

So...,I thought now would be a good time to nix the sweets for a lil bit. I'd love someone to do it with me. I am doing no candy, cookies, cake, ice cream, choclate..only sugar free items and of course fruit. Is is very hard for me, because everyday I eat at least one sweet, especially at night. Anyone want to join me?? :)

  • I'll join you. Though I don't think it would be very hard for me since I am not a big fan of candy and chocolate in general, but ice cream is my weakness!

I'm doing the same thing, except no sugar free fake sweets either. I also don't eat corn, dairy, or wheat, so it's going to be super tough to nix the sweets too. That's like 30% of my calories.

Damn girl that's hard, I eat decent, I'll have to,follow your lead, you are in great shape. But can't give up carbs and sweets, so sweets for now. Day one done :)
  • It would probably benefit me.... It will benefit me... This is my first time on a diet and Im lacking discipline. So I guess Ill start this outright. Whooo. This is a big step for me!

I will join you, since it was my intention to go sugar & artificial sugar free for Lent anyway. I will start tomorrow though, since I already had a small Valentines cupcake today, that my boss gave me and there was no way of not eating it without offending him: (

This is my plan as well. I have such a weakness for sweets it's like I can't resist them. So I am working on it during lent. And also Pizza.

I decided a couple days ago that sweets were what I was going to give up for lent! I eat something sweet about 2pm everyday...I guess thats when work gets boring sometimes. I just always do it so I'm trying to kick the habit!

    Count me in
  • I am in but this will be soooo hard for me.
  • Charelg, I will join you for lent, or for as long as you like. I'm diabetic, and have given sugar, cake, pie, etc. up for good. Don't feel too deprived if you can't have it for just 40 days.

In other words, YOU GO GIRL! You can do it!

I also gave up sweets! I started yesterday and today at work everyone is sharing candy or chocolate among coworkers for valentine's day...I am not touching any! Count me in!
  • I am in! OMG, I really hope to resist.. Chocolate is my passion, I use to have a sweet treat every day, but it is not healthy at all! Let's try it!

I gave up bread, cake and cookies. These are extremely hard to resist If set in front of me. In fact, for my cheat meal yesterday, we ordered thin crust pizza and it came with cinnamon sticks. I'm guessing that falls into the bread category?!?! Failed already! But I will be back on track. Just curious, I've heard that on Sundays we are allowed to indulge and rejoice! That Lent from Ash Wednesday to Easter is actually more than 40 days, but when you subtract out the Sundays it equals 40 days, so that's why Sundays don't count. What do you think about that?

That is hard! I only gave up bad sweets:candy, cookies, cake, choclate, ice cream, pastries...I ate a banana with honey last night, wasnt the same. Didn't realize I was such a sweet addict. I'll have to look at the lent calendar deal.. I was going to just try my hardest 30 days straight. To see if I can actually do it.

You can do it! Just one day at a time! It takes 22 days to create a habit...so I bet you will be able to surpass your goal if you stick to it!

Joining too! I did it once two years ago (before MFP) and it helped ease my sweet tooth! It's creeping up again, this is what I need!

Yeah they say the longer you go, the easier it gets. Amy have some healthy sweet snack ideas that aren't the things I gave up (candy, cookies, pastries, candy, ice cream) I did a yogurt blueberry parfait, a banana with honey, frozen banana...any other ideas??

What is this, day 5? I'm pretty much drinking coffee and tea with splenda / stevia all day to curb my sweet craving. Not sure if that's cheating, but this is so brutal for me. I seriously feel depressed without my sugar. I wasn't expecting the mood slump. How many days to get over an addiction?

So how is everybody doing? I struggled on Saturday and ate a lot of dried fruit, but now I am coping better. I do have a few dates at night to curb my sweet tooth. I am also eating quite a bit of fresh fruit, it seems to help.

It seems to be easier this week for me. I feel like I"m doing pretty well...I've had no sweets or sodas (even diet) since lent started.
