Loose skin from losing alot of weight

I don't know if I am even posting this is the right area. If not please direct me to the right section. I have a question about my lose skin. I had a baby almost a year ago and lost 60+ lbs after having her in a short time span of just 5 months. 28 lbs came off right after my c-section.

Anyways, since then I have alot of loose skin and nothing I do seems to be able to tighten it. I am 29 years old and I am 140 lbs and I carry it well but I want to lose more inches and tighten up this loose skin. (My current workout helps with the inches part) My goal weight is 135 lbs so I only have 5 lbs to go.

I eat very healthy, and drink alot of water. I do 30 day shred which has a variety of workouts. I was going to give it a bit longer and start to do more cardio. 3 times a week to start and gradually work my way up to 5 times a week 20 minutes each session.

Is there anything else I can do to tighten this lose skin area? It's all out my front where I carried my daughter, and I was massive during pregnancy which resulted in all that skin left hanging. My daughter was 10 lbs 7 oz and I am a small framed girl so I was severely stretched out.

Can somebody please point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

It can take upwrds of two years for skin to shrink back.

Since you are so close to goal, eat at a slight surplus, and lift heavy weights. Doing strength training to build muscle will help tighten everything up.

Plastic Surgery migh tbe your only option depending on how badly the skin was damaged.

I'd wait a year or two, moisturize well and exercise. If it's not back to normal by then, surgery might be required to get it to the way it used to be. Skin doesn't always return completely to normal.

This! Patience is key. I had loose skin on my arms and stomach, and wanted to rid it without surgery. My doctor said just work on strength training/toning exercises and BE PATIENT. Depending on the amount of loose skin it can take up to 5 years! Thankfully I was able to tone mine all up in about a year. Just keep at it, and don't rush it.

Wow, this is great info. Good to know!
  • Thanks everyone. I think it will take alot longer than a year. It is pretty loose but not as bad as after I had her so it IS improving. I am doing strength training, I do it everyday. 3 minutes cardio, 2 minutes strength, 1 minute abs for 20 minutes everyday. I also drink lots of water, what type of moisturizers are good for tightening belly skin?

What does eating at a surplus mean?

Surplus instead of a deficit, it's usually what people do while building muscle.
  • Oh. So I eat MORE calories, but add more weight lifting? Like, what type of weights? I have 3 lb hand weights. I am quite weak as I have just started. I didn't think just using hand weights didnt burn enough calories?

Yes, you eat more calories than it takes to maintain your weight... only slightly more.

3lb hand weights will do nothing. Really... nothing. It is not nearly heavy enough.

You need to lift a weight heavy enough where after 6-8 reps you cannot lift another time.

Is the 3min strength, 2 mins cardio, 1min abs the 30 day shred workout video? If so, that is a cardio video, not a strength training program.

Also, if you do strength training correctly you won't be able to do it everyday. You will not mkae progres working the same muscles everyday as they need to repair themselves and they can't when you are doing the same things daily.
  • So what do you recommend i do? it is the 30 day shred dvd, but i can only handle 3 lb weights right now for that dvd, i was goign to work my way up once i find these weights easier.

I feel ya'. I can only use 3lb weights too.

And they are sooooooo heavy! I figured once I build stronger muscles for my arms/shoulders then I could work my way up. i don't really see the point in using too heavy of weights so that I hurt myself.
  • @now or never can you please point me in a good workout for weight lifting? I am new to the whole working out thing.

absolutely it helps, depending on where it is. I lost my weight over 20 years ago and my abs have been very forgiving. My legs? Not so much. My plan is to keep lifting heavy and fill up as much as possible with muscle. I haven't ruled out surgery, although I have my fears about the pain lol
