What's the point of excercising if ....your supposed to eat your excercise calories? Why not just eat 1200 calories and not excercise?

The more you exercise the faster your metobolism works. So therefore you need to eat more.

Exercising will help your body gain muscle which will burn more fat doing everything that you do. You don't have to eat back all of your exercise calories. I only eat them back 1 or 2 days a week and not the rest of the time. You just have to figure out what works for you and your body. Exercising will make you a healthier person as well as helping you lose weight! You can do it and you will feel SO much better. :)

    It's helped me build muscle.
When I don't feel like exercising I just eat 1300 calories instead of 1600.
I do find that the exercise is a nice addition though.
I have more energy and am in a better mood overall.
And like I said, the slow building of muscles isn't too shabby either :)

First of all, exercise helps you feel better. I feel great during a week of running and eating nutritious, filling foods. After a week of no exercise and only eating 1200 calories, I don't feel too good.

If you're looking at it more from a weight-loss standpoint, exercising helps tone your body and strengthen your muscles. The more muscle mass you have, the more calories you burn at rest. And who doesn't want to look toned?

Exercise also has numerous other health benefits- it can strengthen your immune system, reduce risks of diseases, and helps you sleep better.

My favorite part of exercise, though, is the endorphins!

Because I don't want to be "skinny fat". I don't want to just weigh less, but I want the weight I lose to be fat and not muscle. I like to feel strong and I like to be able sprint for a bus or lift my bike up the stairs without feeling weak or completely winded.

I sleep better when I am exercising regularly and sleep helps in weight loss. My cellulite goes down when I am exercising regularly--even if I don't lose weight, my thighs and butt look firmer and smoother from the increased circulation that comes from working up a good sweat on a regular basis.

And, at least for me, exercising helps me control my appetite. I find that I have fewer cravings throughout the day when I workout and the cravings that I do have tend to be for healthier things! I think it helps keep me in touch with what my body really needs in terms of nutrition.

And also it's important to keep your insides as healthy and beautiful as your outsides :) Your heart is one big muscle, and it needs to be kept in shape. Cardio workouts not only burn calories, but they also make your heart stronger. Very important, without it you won't last very long....

exercise is a great mood booster especially if a person suffers from mild depression. Exercise has MANY many health benifits..as stated in all of the other comments posted here.

if all you want is weight loss then fine. If you want to be healthy, have more energy and look good then exercise is where it is at

    Exactly.
Exercise strengthens your muscles, heart, lungs, BODY.

If it's too hard to wrap your head around eating your exercise calories, set your calories on MFP to MAINTAIN your current weight, and then exercise to create your calorie deficit (and if you were doing it this way, you would NOT eat your exercise calories).

FYI: I HAVE to eat 100% of my exercise calories to even lose weight at this point because my body freaks out about large daily calorie deficits. Guess what -- I still exercise almost daily. I love building my endurance, speed, and strength. Why wouldn't you want those things?

Excercising is not just for burning calories its for bulding muscles and it releases indorfans (sorry if thats spelled wrong) in the brain making you feel good... if anything look at it as you dont excercise to eat more you eat more to ecercise.

Thanks for asking this question...I was wondering the same thing! I'm realizing that the more I exercise, the more mfp is requiring me to eat! I don't get it! I just joined on the 17th, so I'm still new and learning (never dieted before). There's no way I can eat all the calories mfp wants me to, so I'm just doing the best I can. Thanks for everyone's answers, they are very informative. :flowerforyou:

And for those of us just starting out on a long journey, I sometimes panic and want to eat everything (it's a mental thing, I guess). Having those extra exercise calories keep me from beating myself up when I go into panic mode. Besides all the other great reasons people have mentioned!

2 tbs of a natural nut butter and 8oz of milk will add 300 *healthy* calories to your day. IMO, there's ALWAYS room for peanut butter.

Besides most of the reasons above, I like to exercise because it makes me choose to eat better. If I'm taking care of my body I tend to put healthier foods in it.
