Ideas for helping foot pain

My lot in life seems to be always suffering from some sort of foodt pain or leg pain. Doesnt matter the shoe even when I've been fit with $200 shoes I am still going to end up with a blister or pain the next day. Even when I was a skinny child I can remember dreading walking because more than likely I was going to get a blister or the bottom of my feet would hurt.

People always ask me why I'm limping. I dont even notice it 90% of the time. If I take a long walk hour plus I can bet that I will have to take 2 days off just because the pain is so bad. I get it in my arches or like today the top of my foot is killing me. If it's not the foot my hips are killing me.

Any ideas from the runners or long distant walkers? Maybe I need to talk to someone from PT. Just seems ongoing. I will walk through the pain I have for most of my life, but I dont think this is normal. If I have to live off ibuprofen I will, but one day I would love to walk without pain.

  • Hi Idrosophila. Congrats on your amazing weight loss thus far. It sounds like you have been suffering foot pain for a long time. Have you considered seeing a specialist? If the pain is inevitable, it seems that you could use someone with expertise in that area to help you work through ways to relieve the pain you are experiencing.
    Sincerely,

Have you talked to your doctor? You are right...this is not normal to be in constant pain! And if it was happening when you were a skinny child, then it has nothing to do with weight. No one should be in pain all the time. My advice...go to your doctor. And if he/she blows you off, go to another doctor. You'll probably end up with an orthopedist or podiatrist but you can start with your PCP (especially if your insurance requires it!)
    Good luck!

Sounds like you might need orthotics, they have machines in Costco, if you can't afford the Dr.

you are not alone, I cannot walk the dog around the block without icing my foot after.
that's why my only real exercise is on a bicycle. Swimming was good when I had a YMCA card.

I suppose you have tried everything under the sun for your blisters. Hikers sock liner and outer sock ? I hope you find some way to build callous .

when my pain was bad I would use a mantra " I have two feet" to try and remember that my problems are smaller than some live with every day as their lot in life.

try and keep that chin up,,, or you will miss the scenery
    later,,,,,,,,,,,bye

my feet hurt. i injured one in the past when i fell and landed in the half splits like james brown while pregnant. managed to balance myself and not fall on baby bump but at the expense of my foot and other injuries.

i use the following two shoes when working out and alternate. this keeps the pain at bay enough to workout.

    vibram toe shoes.

they were my second attempt at hump shoes after the originals were too hard and uncomfortable even though they were much more expensive I just couldn't tolerate them.

For many feet hurt less when they walk around WITHOUT shoes. Do you walk barefoot around the house? If you do, do your feet still hurt?

Stay away from the butt toning shoes mentioned, they may make your problems worse.

Not to mention that they were sued for making dubious claims: http://www.10news.com/news/butt-shaping-shoes-settlement-to-cost-skechers-40m

I used to almost fall when I got out of bed in the morning because my feet hurt. My big toes also started to turn to the outside.

Then I hurt my back teaching a fitness class (my lifting my gym bag over a bench, believe it or not). During physio, my therapist discovered that my PELVIS was the problem for my back pain. My right hip was turned back and, in causing strain on the right side of my back. She gave me some exercises to strengthen my pelvis and proceeded to stretch me out every session. Then, one day, I realized that I was jumping out of bed with no foot pain!

Problems with feet can be caused by weaknesses in the pelvis. She had an article she gave to me regarding this - I wish I still had it for you. I was so happy - I thought I was going to have to be fitted with expensive orthotics, but my foot pain has pretty much disappeared. If I do notice any problems with my back or feet I make sure to include her exercises in my routine and usually within a week it is gone.

I would definitely see a physiotherapist and have her do an assessment.

    Hope this helps.

www.nwfootankle.com has a bunch of useful information on their website that I've found very helpful numerous times. I have a RUBZ ball for my feet and love it.

I second or third the ortho..... or whatever a visit to rhw ortho.....

I had foot pain, and it turned out to be me walking funny due to arthritis in my big toe (which I didn't even realize was bothering me). I got fitted for custom orthotics, and a few weeks after getting them the pain in my foot disappeared.

I second the Vibrams. I tore my achilles two years ago and I've had a lot of other foot problems. I paid hundreds for custom orthopedic shoes from my foot surgeon, but they did not compare--at all--to vibrams. I think they look kind of hideous, but they are a life saver. I wear the KMD LS.
