I love coconut oil, I substitute butter, oil, and dressings, I literally use it for everything I cook exspecially my chicken off the foreman grill it's really dry I add some coconut oil to the chicken it's delicious and juicy. It has mct fats i don't even add it to MFP since the fat in it is used for energy and not stored as fat. I've still managed to lose 10 pounds in 8 weeks of cutting.0

The big thing with coconut oil is that it's 100% fat, no carbs/proteins. For those who are on low-carb diets it can be a useful alternative, but I suggest using it in moderation.
Fun note: Those Kureig K-Cups for Hot Chocolate? The "chocolate" you taste in them is usually coconut oil.
Although is is 100% fat, it is a GOOD fat and is 100% better for you than regular vegetable oil...Anything naturally grown is good for you.

i use it as lotion and as a cooking oil when i am out of olive oil... i also feed 1/2 tsp to my puppy every morning and night. helps her with her shiny coat and itchy skin :P

If you've heard horror stories about coconut oil and its high fat content in the past, most of those studies are referring to hydrolyzed versions of coconut oil. Any hydrolyzed oil is unhealthy because it produces trans fats that are not natural to the oil.

I mainly use it as an all-over moisturizer and sometimes conditioner. It is also used as an antifungal, antiviral, and antibacterial. AIDS patients can boost their immunity against the virus by taking several tablespoons a day. It is also said to help with IBS sufferers and inflamation.0

google it! It's amazing, I use it to cook with just like you'd use olive oil or lard/shortening/maragrine. I use it for a facial moisturizer and notice my crows feet are disappearing! I also oil pull for oral health. And I am currently trying to get the nursing home my father is in to give it to him 3 times a day to help his Alzheimer's. I have been researching it for the few weeks and I am so excited about it!0

Why buy something if you don't know what to do with it? Seems a bit strange to me.
It's obvious one could use it to cook with, but it doesn't hurt to ask about other uses. I saw you could add it to warm salt water to create "beach hair". Not everyone would think of that immediately. No such thing as a bad or strange thing to ask More than one person may also be looking for answers.

Coconut oil is used extensively in tropical countries especially India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Phillipines etc, which have a good production of coconut oil. The oil was also once popular in western countries such as United States and Canada; however, there was a strong propoganda in 1970s spread by the corn oil and soy oil industry against coconut oil. Coconut oil was considered harmful for the human body due to its high saturated fat content till the last decade (2000s) when people started questioning this propoganda. Let us get into some details of how coconut oil works for our body.
How is Lauric Acid used by our body?
The human body converts lauric acid into monolaurin which is claimed to help in dealing with viruses and bacteria causing diseases such as herpes, influenza, cytomegalovirus, and even HIV. It helps in fighting harmful bacteria such as listeria monocytogenes and helicobacter pylori, and harmful protozoa such as giardia lamblia. As a result of these various health benefits of coconut oil, though its exact mechanism of action was unknown, it has been extensively used in Ayurveda, the traditional Indian medicinal system. The Coconut Research Center has compiled various benefits in both traditional and modern medicine.
Before we move on to the benefits of coconut oil in detail, let us understand its composition.
Composition of Coconut Oil:
Coconut oil consists of more than ninety percent of saturated fats (Don’t panic! First read to the last word. Your opinion may change), with traces of few unsaturated fatty acids, such as monounsaturated fatty acids and polyunsaturated fatty acids. Virgin coconut oil is no different from this. Let us have a bit detailed study of this..
Saturated fatty acids: Most of them are medium chain triglycerides, which are supposed to assimilate well. Lauric acid is the chief contributor, with more than forty percent of the share, followed by capric acid, caprylic acid, myristic acid and palmitic.
Polyunsaturated fatty acids: Linoleic acid.
Monounsaturated fatty acids: Oleic acid.
Poly-phenols: Coconut contains gallic acid, which is phenolic acid. These poly-phenols are supposed to be responsible for the fragrance and the taste of coconut oil and Virgin Coconut Oil is rich in these poly-phenols.
Certain derivatives of fatty acid like betaines, ethanolamide, ethoxylates, fatty esters, fatty polysorbates, monoglycerides and polyol esters.
Fatty chlorides, fatty alcohol sulphate and fatty alcohol ether sulphate, all of which are derivatives of fatty alcohols.
Vitamin-E and Vitamin K and minerals such as Iron.

Hair Care:

Therefore it is solid at room temperature and melts only when the temperatures go high. Hence, if you buy a bottle of coconut oil and find it solid, don't think that there is some problem with it. Coconut oil is like this only. And of course, don't keep it in your refrigerator.
How to Use Coconut Oil?: If you are using coconut oil for topical purposes, especially hair care, just melt the oil (if it is solid) by keeping the bottle in the sun or warm water. You can also take some coconut oil out and put it in a small bowl and heat the bowl over a flame (do not use microwave). Then take the oil on your palm and apply it to your hair. If you want to use it for internal consumption, simply replace butter or vegetable oils with coconut oil in your recipes. Remember, you need not switch to coconut oil completely, as you will miss the benefits of other oils and dairy products.

Like many ppl have stated already, Coconut oil is good for many things and is a health fat. I normally us it in my smoothies with mango and pineapple, it give it a pinacolada type or tropical taste. I also use it as hair a moisturiser for my hair and I also use it on my body, when I go into the sauna. I get a hell of a sweat.0

I use it on my skin and hair, it makes an awesoem moisturizer.
Mix it with some ginger, and it goes really well with white fish. I also use it in some baking in place of vegetable oil, and to pop popcorn in. Pretty much anything that calls for oil or you think would taste yummy with a hint of coconut, it works for.0 -

I use it in my hair as a conditioner to define curls, as lotion (I'm allergic to freaking everything but coconut), and just to cook with in general.
It has a lower smoke point, so avoid the really high heat applications.0 -

I use it in place of butter on my english muffin and sweet potatoes it is amazing.
Also I use it on my skin and cuticles.
I believe it has a low smoking point, like olive oil so you can't deep fry or get it too hot.
On the contrary, I think it has a reasonable smoke point (olive oil has a very high smoke point, so long as you are using the good stuff... although, you really should be using olive oil for cold uses, rather than hot). I have used it for deep frying. It's very nice when making funnel cakes and fritters.

However, I suggest you ditch most of the veg oils there, especially canola and soy. They are really bad for you.
