Hi,
Ive been here for a few weeks now, I didnt own any scales so took a random guess at how much i weighed. (based on a rough figure from before i had my 2 boys 5 years ago )
I must admit ive not taken it 100% seriously but tried to stay under calories and managed it most days!!
Despite not knowing how much i weighed i could tell i had lost some due to being able to fit in jeans that was too small at xmas
today I got my new bathroom scales delivered.....I AM MORE THAN A STONE HEAVIER THAN I THOUGHT I WAS
deep down i know that this makes little difference other than shows that now is the time to take this seriously and change the way i live/eat.
but im thinking its much more likely that im going to runny to "the goodie drawer" and pig out
HELP!!!!

You can do this! Clear out the goodie drawer and fill it with motivational things instead! Dont self sabotage by keeping that stuff around.
Good luck and just follow the plan. It works!
ps: how much is a stone in lbs?0 -
How annoying for you But... Numbers are just numbers! And it sounds like you are well on your way to making those numbers smaller anyway
I think you should congratulate yourself on being able to fit into the jeans that were to small for you. That is a massive acheivement!! Well done.
And now you know how much you weigh rather than guessing, you'll have a better picture of how you are improving from now on. So weighing yourself was actually a good thing. Just don't be tempted to hop on those scales every day. Once a week will be fine!0 -
I had this same thing a while ago. I thought I weighed about as much as my mother (who is 12.5 stone), and I knew I had to lose weight to become healthier. Eventually I bought a scale and discovered I was actually... oh god... fifteen and a half stone. This nearly killed me. For about a week I went on a pizza binge (this was in December). I then decided that that wouldn't help in the long run, spent a while on Pinterest looking at motivational pins (one of my favourites: "Don't think about how much time it will take to achieve your goal. The time will pass anyway.") On the first of January I made a resolution to exercise every day and eat better. I've stuck to it, and I've lost a stone and a half since then. I never thought I'd be happy about being fourteen stone, but I am. And I'm even happier because I know I'm still losing, and by summer I might weigh less. Hopefully.
Now I'm off to go for a run
STAY STRONG. YOU CAN DO THIS. x0 -
Don't go to the food drawer - you can do this. Don't worry so much about scale if clothes are fitting better. The scale will catch up. You are doing great and need to keep it up!!!
Nothing tastes as good as FEELING thin!!!0 -
I think it is good to have a starting point...to know your weight when you start out....I weigh in every 2-3 days and sometimes every day, just depending on the morning....I feel it helps keep me motivated...don't let the number scare or fool you though....it is JUST a number....sure, everything here is calculated by numbers lost but it has more to do with how you FEEL in your own skin....and if you are seeing differences in your clothes that is awesome! Just because you are a little heavier than you thought, doesn't mean you are not doing a good job! Hell I was 13 lbs more than I thought I was at the end of the year....I had put my scale away and really wish I hadn't because I wasn't holding myself accountable assuming I hadn't gained weight....but I knew I did because my pants were tighter.....
You KNOW you can do this! You've been doing it! Ignore that number and keep on going! Oh, and get rid of the goodie drawer!!! You don't need it!!! Fill it with boxes of raisins and nuts!
I'm here for advice if you need it0 -
I would look at it as you now know exactly what you weigh and know exactly where you wanna be. Yes its depressing to weigh more than you thought but I would still stay positive about it. First thing to do is clear out that goodie drawer. I definitely dont have one of those in my house lol!0

You're doing great..... You DID lose weight, cuz u said you see the difference in your clothing.. its just that the starting weight you thought you were at was higher... and thats ok... just keep at what you are doing.... All the best0

Thank you all!!!
Deep down i know i need to just keep going, if anything take it more seriously that i have until this point!
my 2 children would have a fit if i cleared out the goodie drawer haha0 -
You'll be fine.
Maintain a calorie deficit and increase your activity level - nature will do the rest.
All the best,
Ben0 -
Why do you want to go and pig out?
If anything, finding out this information would make me re-evaluate things further. You also need to remember you have obviously been losing or you wouldn't be fitting into clothes that were previously too small! So just continue as you have been0 -
DON'T WORRY! i am going through something very similar. At my gym we have to do an assessment i was always afraid of doing it because i HATE facing the scale, it just depresses me and makes me feel fat which makes me feel careless so i end up eating because i "feet fat" LOL. you almost feel hopeless you tell urself i'm fat anyway i might as well eat something that makes me feel good (junk..). It only makes you feel good momentarily but looking fine and wearing anything you want and feel great.. now THAT is something nothing can compare to not even food. Today i got back on the scale after a year, i need to stop being in denial and face the scale to MAKE PROGRESS. It will just help me "measure" my success!! the scale is NOT everything there are so many things in our body... water muscles fat and everything ..measurements matter. Aim to be healthy adopt a good lifestyle forget the word "diet" look at the good side.. amazing healthy body is what you want aim for that and think of that don't think of how you "can't eat something or how you have to DIET" they're negative thoughts. think of what you CAN eat. Get on the scale every week be honest with yourself you're strong! as long as you face your fears and work on getting rid of them. I am the type that eats a lot i'm not fat but i'm slightly overweight i have a high muscle mass but also a high fat %age i want to work on getthing rid of that. trust me it shouldn't be hard as long as we work on eatig things we love but are good for us!!! GOODLUCK and remember if OBESE people became SKINNY losing a few kilograms shouldn't be too hard.0

Let them have a fit! They will get over it! My kids like sweets too but if I offer berries instead, they always take the berries...you might be surprised!0 -

This.
My husband and daughter at first protested the lack of chocolate and sweets in the house but readily eat what is provided. Remember that you are the biggest influence in your childrens life and that you are helping them to set their eating habits now. Providing them endless sweets and treats is setting them to be in your shoes one day and struggling to lose the weight. I for one never want my daughter to go through this or to feel bad about her appearance. If that means she is mad at me for offering raisins instead of smarties then so be it. She will appreciate it when she is older as she is 5 now and weight means very little to her. I emphasis "healthy" and that she understands.0 -
I actually make sure the boys eat as healthy as i can, My eldest son also suffers food allergies so his diet is very mapped out, and as he can have any dairy, so no ice cream or chocolate etc that does limit things.
more often than not they have fruit and soya yogurt as a treat, and i agree at that point, that could not care less about unhealthy snacks. but i cant just throw out all their xmas gifts selection boxes etc!!! maybe helping them make healthy choices rather than pigging out on that is why i still have a massive "goodie drawer" haha
my boyfriend on the other hand is a different matter. eats like a pig, not a piece of fruit or veg in sight and in great shape, in fact just today he counted sour apple laces as one of his 5 a day lol .....its sickening haha0 -
I started MFP April of last year I cant remember the exact number but I remember the feelings! I was at the doctors office and she put me on the scale and all I did was cry in her office the entire visit. When I get down about no weight loss or frustrated I have a saying "A year from now, you will wish you started today." Hands down the best advise I have ever gotten on MFP !0
