Advice - big goal or lots of little goals?

OK so here is the question:

Should i
A - set myself the goal to loose 3 stone?
B - set myself mini goals of 1 stone each time?

I think the first is a better option for me as everytime i get motivated to loose (like today) i end up with a small goal, so to not put too much pressure on myself. This however doesnt do me any good as i think; 'oh ill lose that soon so no worries on eating cake today'

At my mums homemade diet group, i put only a stone down as my goal, but i think actually for me it would be good to say; 'no i would like to loose 3 stone and ill be happy every time i loose!'

What do you do and any ideas on how to keep at it and not loose sight of that goal?

Smaller goals work the best for me. If I look at the big picture--I get easily discouraged with just a one pound loss. Setting my goals for measurements and what the scale says is helpful too. Sometimes the scale won't move, but there will be inches lost.
