Confused and need advise

Hey everyone!

Extremely confused. I bought a HRM a few days ago. A polar FT4. I would be quite fit, do alot of training etc. anyway so during a class last night (Boxercise) I wore my HRM. After the class I checked my watch and stopped the training. It said my average heart rate was 141 but I reached a maximum of 206????? Now I worked out that my max heart rate is 195. How is this possible?? Any ideas?

Thanks x

    Hi

MHR can vary, here is an extract from the training guide from concept 2 the rowing people (hope this helps)

    Maximum Heart Rate (MHR)
Maximum heart rate will vary depending on what you are doing to bring your heart rate up. Running will
elicit a higher maximum heart rate than rowing which in turn will elicit a higher maximum than swimming.
This is due in part to the fact that runners are upright and so the heart has to overcome the gravitational
pull; rowers are seated and so the effects of gravity are reduced and swimmers are prone further reducing
the gravitational pull. It is important to know what your maximum heart rate is as it enables you to
calculate the correct training bands for heart rate. One method of calculating MHR is to use the equation
MHR = 220 – age, but this can be very inaccurate, having an error of ±15/20 beats per minute (BPM).

So do you think 206 beats per minute could be right even though I'm pretty fit. I guess boxing is pretty tough going and I did push myself.

    Hmmmmm
