Yes especially with water "weight". When you retain water the scale will always be up. The more water you drink the less you retain and the more accurate the number on the scale is. Also, water is filling and the more of it you drink the smaller your meals will be throughout the day. It certainly helps with portion control which in turn helps you lose weight.0

I was part of a 90 day around the world challenge and part of it was drinking large amounts of water daily... during that ninety days, my weight loss was more steady than it has ever been... I know that it is hard to drink half your weight in water each day, but it flushes your system and helps deliver nutrients to your organs and such, so GLUB GLUB GLUB.. drink up!!!0

Our bodies are mostly water. It's an essential in life and too little of it causes the body to retain it. Also not enough water will cause you to have "thicker" blood and cause you to fatigue faster. Fatiguing faster means less movement and less movement means less calories burned. Especially when you work out, water is lost from the body from breathing. So make sure to get in enough. Personally I encourage my clients to intake about half their body weight as the number of ounces they should drink a day.

Also when you feel hungry you're probably thirsty... 8/10 times, your brain gets confused... It does also fill your stomach too.0

A few reasons:
- It decreases your appetite because it takes up room in your stomach.
- Sometimes when you feel hungry, you are actually thirsty.
- Hydration is key to a healthy body.
- It helps with endurance during exercise if you drink back what you sweat out.0 -

A trainer once stated...... "While food is the fuel, water is the oil. Water helps your body do everything you ask it to do."0 -
NOTE: It's not just plain water that does all these...it's fluid in general. I rarely drink plain water, but I drink a ton of fluids from decaf ice tea, decaf coffee, coffee, diet v8 splash, crystal light, protein shakes, almond milk etc..... If you have drinks with stats (like 5 cals, or 20 sodium etc... you track it in your food diary as well as under the fluid/water ticker)0

Everything that's already been said. As an aside it also really helps your skin. Mine has cleared up remarkably since drinking more water. It can sometimes feel like a chore but I definitely notice a difference when I don't drink enough.0

Funny you should say this.I used to have beautiful skin. Never was one of those kids who really had to deal with acne. But over the last 10 years I have developed severe Rosecea (thanks Mom). Now at 40 I normally look like I am hitting puberty again. Since I joined MFP and started drinking a minimim of 64oz per day my skin looks fantastic!0 -
In addition to many of the suggestions above, I have read, as you become dehydrated, your body's defenses slows down the metabolism to protect what little water is still on board. So in a constant dehydrated state, metabolism slows down to protect itself. A slower metabolism means a lower calorie burn.0
