i am 4'10" and 96 pounds. i eat pretty much whenever i am hungry and sometimes a bit too much, i'll admit... but i recently got food poisoning and every doctor that visited told me i was too thin and needed to gain weight. i am within normal BMI for my height, though. i told the doctors i try to eat more than 1300-1400 calories a day but i hardly get there,.... opinions/ help ???

BMI isn't the end-all be-all, and its often not the best measurement for some builds.. including shorter people, very tall people, and bodybuilders (most bodybuilders have a BMI of 'obese'!!! too funny!!)

I do notice it looks like you have a goal of losing 11 more pounds?? If your doctors are saying you are too thin, then losing more weight might not be the best idea. If you are eating when you are hungry and your nutrients are good, then you're probably ok.

I'd suggest seeing a nutritionist. Log all your food for a week using MyFitnessPal and print a report to show them what you are eating. They'll be able to let you know if its 'enough' or if you might be missing out on important nutrients.

It is a little hard to give suggestions since your diary looks a little spotty in terms of when you have actually logged your food.

I'm also a little confused about your question because, from your ticker, it looks as though you are aiming for a goal that puts you at too low of a weight (according to the BMI) and multiple doctors that you visited already seem to have reason to believe that you too thin. I guess it doesn't seem like you are paying a lot of attention to the doctors to begin with?

Your post concerns me for your health. Why do you think you need to lose weight when even doctors are telling you you're too thin. The previous posts are correct. BMI is not a good indicator of healthy weigh in all people. 85 pounds is underweight, even with a petite build, at your height. I like the suggestion of seeing a nutritionist, but I might also consider talking to someone along the lines of a counselor about why you think you need to lose weight. Are you preoccupied with a number? Do you want to look like the Hollywood stars? Is there someone you want to impress? Do you think you'll be happier if you're thinner? Body image has been a problem for me for a long time, and it has taken me many years to really recognize what the underlying issues are. I do understand being preoccupied with weight, but also recognize that means there's another problem. Your goal should to be healthy - and it sounds like the doctors would recommend that you gain weight in order to be healthy. Please know that I'm not judging you - but am genuinely concerned. I will keep you in my prayers that you figure out whatever it is you need to figure out to be healthy, both physically and emotionally.

i don't have a goal of 11 pounds.. that ticker is the one where it just shows in weight how much you've lost with the actual weight on the counter. i don't know, it seems i've lost weight after actually writing everything down, i haven't really tried very hard.. the reason there are days empty was only because i was in the hospital for food poisoning. (which i guess is good that i actually kept this thing updated)

and i guess i thought i ought to lose weight because i feel very unhealthy but now i am questioning is the fact that i don't eat enough. idk, i guess i am confused for my age/height/body type. sure, i am 96 pounds but i have curves, i am not a stick, i promise!

You're very tiny...I'm 105 pounds and 5 inches taller than you, and I don't look like a stick either. I don't think your calories are too low at all, that's pretty much what I eat to maintain, maybe a little bit more. Maybe you just need to change what you eat, add more fruits and veggies and meats, and see how you do. Up the protein!

Eat peanut butter. It's high in calories and good for you.
