I'm glad no one told me exercise wouldn't help me lose weight before I lost 100 pounds through exercise.

Blah, it's the same principal as the paleo diet. Yes there is truth in what humans are genetically predisposed towards but comparing yourself to a cave man makes no sense. It is impossible for any modern day person to live as a cave man did. Our food has more chemicals, we don't have the time to wander the fields and mountains all day. In an ideal world if you wanted to lose weight you would grow or gather your veggies, hunt your own meat, and go hiking half the day. I don't know anyone who has that sort of time, so there is no point in taking on 1 or 2 traits of a lifestyle you can't possibly duplicate entirely. Most people like this theory because they want to take the exercise less aspect out of it, but it doesn't say exercise less it says exercise all day at a low intensity which no one has time for.

That bit about walking for 20-30 mins a day wont do anything. Well I should say it will help keep you in shape but it won't help you lose weight. I spent 6 months without my trainer just walking on the treadmill for an hour every day thinking I would lose weight and I didn't lose anything. My legs got better shape but no weight loss.

My take away when people start in about humans being predisposed to this and that is that people are not supposed to get fat in an obese way in the first place. People are not designed to eat some of the fast food crap we do eat and leads us to getting fat. If we got fat doing things humans shouldn't do than how can we excuse ourselves from having to work hard, sweat hard and be as uncomfortable working out as were were happy, indulgent and oblivious to the aspects that made us fat?

If you get fit lose your excess weight and want to live a hippie, bean eating, walk around all day lifestyle power to you. But please don't let this theory give you an excuse to cop out of doing the hard work that has always been proven to lose people weight.

More baseless hypothesis getting bandied around as fact. Hard exercise doesn't make you ****ing fat. Eating too much food makes you ****ing fat. What the hell is wrong with people?

This whole thing is so ridiculously contradicting, even of itself:

"Gentle exercise for 30 minutes – just 30 minutes – works"
    followed by
"This study shows short, intense workouts are best – for fat loss, increasing aerobic capacity, and reducing risk for cardiovascular disease."

So which is it? Putt along, or go balls out? Oh wait...it might be an individual thing, in which case, why write this asinine bull**** to begin with? o_O

    Any thoughts?
As above - yes, it can - if you're very stupid about it.

I'm pretty sure getting fitter and a 50bpm or so resting heart rate now means my BMR has gone down a chunk on days I don't really move. I also have a good bit less weight to shift around, which has further reduced my BMR (noticable that cycling home with a 20lb bag of dog food on the back was a good bit harder, yet at that point I was over three of those down from my high point!)

So... I say being thin makes you fat!

Oh and yes; calories in vs calories out DOES stand true, she's just missed the point that she's changed calories out.

I love "Some research has found that the obese already “exercise” more than most of the rest of us."

I don't believe exercise makes a person obese, eating too much makes a person obese. An obese person exercising more because it can help with diabetes, heart diseases, etc. The rest of us most likely think we are "healthy" enough to not exercise. Also, if the researches are right, does it mean the olympic athletes are fat?
