eating back your calories

What are people's thoughts on eating back your calories that you burned during exercise?? Is this a "must" or simply "optional".

I'm pretty sure you're supposed to take in at least 1200 net calories a day, but I know that I can never do that. I burn so many calories when I workout that it's hard for me to achieve this goal. Log what you eat, how many calories you burn, and try to make the difference at least 1200! It should probably be more than that though... hope this helps!0
