exercising when feeling ill?

Today I was doing the 30 Day Shred, when my body just gave out. I was having terrible cramps and I felt like I was going to pass out. TMI but I am due to have my period in the next week but cramps have never stopped me from exercising before. I made it about 16 minutes into Level 2 Day 6 when I had to shut off the DVD and take a breather because the cramps were so bad.

I suppose my question here is, what are some good cardio exercises that raise your heart rate in the fat burning zone without exactly aggravating your body when you're sick or, like me, likely suffering from period cramps?

I hate skipping out on a workout, especially when it's a short one. I exercise 5 days a week for 20-50 minutes at a time. So it's not exactly a whole lot of exercising but I have lost about 9 pounds and 2 inches from my waist and 2 inches from my hips since January 2nd and I am eating pretty healthy.

  • I'm not sure of a whole lot. I've always heard a rule of thumb is if symptoms are the neck up to work out, and below the neck to take a day off. Not sure if that applies to cramps, but there have been times I had to rest because I was on the verge of tears and eventual being physically sick from pain.

Best bet is to take a pain killer and hope it lessens them enough that you can focus. Try eating a banana, which is a natural remedy and even some Evening Primrose. My mother always swore by the stuff. Best of luck!

Some women say power walking is good. As for myself, I can't bring myself to be able to do anything because my cramps are so horrid.

one word, dont. if they hurt so much you feel you might pass out, dont. if you are ok, then a small walk could help, but dont risk hurting yourself and being in pain for a couple more days when you couldve just taken the day off.
  • Thank you guys! I'm taking the rest of the night off and just resting. Hopefully the cramps will be gone by tomorrow.
