Is 60g of carbs, "low"?

I have never really eaten low carb. I have a serious sugar habit that I'd like to kick and thought cutting back on carbs would help. Yesterday was my first true attempt. I ate 1/4 cup of high fiber cereal at breakfast (with Greek yogurt) after that all of my carbs came from vegetables. At the end of the day, I had consumed 60g of carbs (was satisfied but only ate about 1100 calories, which seems low).

So my question is, Will I lose weight and benefit from "cutting carbs" if I am still eating 60 per day? Does this seem like a silly question? If so, I apologize. Also, if I am satisfied and only consume 1100 calories, is that okay? Again, patience is appreciated, I am no dietitian! I Googled it and on a lot of the official low carb diet plans the begining stage is WAY low carb (like under 20g).

From what I have read, Low Carb is <80 to 100g per day.
My niece was put on a ,100g per day diet by her endocrinologist after her GD became type 2. After 6 months on it she was no longer clinically diabetic.

The first 8 months I did low carb I didn't really track anything. But my blood glucose and A1C drop back to normal from being pre-diabetic.

My glucose was high so I do 30g of Total Carbs per meal and 15g per snack. So three meals and two snacks. I am on a 1200 calorie diet and its really hard to get all the calories in being low carb. Since most calories will come from carbs. But I try to eat healthy carbs.
  • I'd consider <100g of carbs to be low(ish) carb. For keto, most people limit it to 20g. I did low carb with a 50g limit when I was losing weight.

Thanks! good to know that officially Low Carb is < 100 g per day. :) Dulcemami1978, you're eating around 105 g of carbs per day and staying at or under 1200 calries. Are you still losing? I've read so much about needing more calories to lose weight, its making me paranoid.
  • Below 100g is enough to go into ketosis if that's what you're asking. At 60g a day you would probably have to wait like a week and a half before going into ketosis but it would happen. If you want to speed up the process do 20g a day with glycogen depleted work outs. I typically do 65% 1RM 5x15 for glycogen drains.
