Running Shoe Advice?

Hi all. I'm fairly new to MFP and to working out regularly. My son has talked me into doing a 5k with him in a couple of months, and my training is underway. I am looking for advice on the best running shoes for my training and the race. I have somewhat sensitive feet. I lean towards the ultra-light type, but would like recommendations on best/most comfortable brands.

Also looking for new friends for my journey!

Go to a specialty running store and they will fit you with proper shoes. There are a lot of aspects involved - pronation, gait, etc...
  • In all reality you should probably go have your stride analyzed for a better fit and function. They will be able to suit you for your needs. Otherwise I would suggest staying away from the normal brands..nike, addidas, etc unless your dropping a huge chunk of change. Go to a ****'s sporting goods and look at brooks, saucony, and asics. These seem to be the better brands for running. The hardest thing i had to give up was the "look" of the shoe...let it go, lol its what makes your feet and knees happy.
Look for running stores. Our analysis was free then they fitted us with shoes....Good luck!!!

Also - Feel free to add me as a friend - I'm running my first 5K in 5 weeks, pretty exciting!!!! And for what it's worth, my current running shoes are Nike Air Pegasus+ 29's with Dr. Scholl's Active Series insoles - quite comfortable for me anyway.

This. A gait analysis from a running store will point you in the right direction.

Def get fitted at a running store, however keep in mind you should buy 1/2 a size to a full size larger than your normal shoe size because your feet expand when you run, especially during longer distances. When I got fitted they failed to tell me that and my shoes were so uncomfortable when I ran. I currently have the Mizuno Wave Inspire 8 and they are fantastic :) I'm running my second 5K in April, feel free to add me

Brooks. And don't buy a size too big, brooks already run a little big.

Which model? I got the beast and they are almost too big. I wear 16 and could have worn a 15.5 in these, if that size actually existed.

Yeah, definitely have your gait analyzed.

I over pronate and found out the hard way (as in my knee being in excruciating pain) that my shoes were not a good fit for me.

I signed up for my first 5K in June. :)

If I remember right they were one of the Adrenaline models...I wear a 10 and they were fine when I was walking around, but as soon as I got into my run they were horrible and I was actually ending up with bruised toe nails cause I thought I just needed to break them in and was trying to run through it :(

I am planning to give a fitting a whirl but in the meantime I have found that rotating a few pairs works best for me becuase i tend to break the inside down first. I ran my first 5k in October and currently training for a 10k.

    Feel free to add me...
