Healthy, Substantial Snack before Workout

I would like to workout right after I get home from work, before dinner. But I'm having an issue with being really hungry at that time. Does anybody have a suggestion of a healthy snack I could eat around 5, so that I don't get light-headed or feel sick while I'm working out?
Thanks!

Our boot camp trainer always recommends eating half a protein bar 30 minutes before our 5:30am workout.

Depends on how many calories you need or want, and how many you are likely to burn. Peanut butter sandwich on wholemeal bread does it for me (for a 5 mile run anyway).

I often go with half a wheat bagel thin with almond butter. That way, you get carbs and proteing to fuel the workout, but don't blow your calorie count out of the water.
  • single scoop protein shake and half a cliff bar

A small banana and a tablespoon of peanut butter. That gives you carbs, protein and fat. Don't forget to hydrate as well. :-)

one slice of whole grain toast with peanut butter
half a banana with peanut butter
    an apple with peanut butter
  • I bought these 100 calorie sandwich thins that I'll sometimes have with some cheese. Or an apple, necarine, banana. All low calorie.
  • the nature valley ganola thins with a little bit of extra peanut butter (yummy!!!)
  • Thanks for all the great ideas!
