I am so excited I am FINALLY getting my 1st tattoo tonight. I have wanted this specific design for 15 years, almost half my life. I'm having the artist add some details for my kids too. YAY!!! So excited! Only 4 more hours!

Any adivce? It will be in the middle of my back (think Waterworld).

Breathe. Most important thing you can do to manage the sensation of getting a tat: breathe. And congratulations! I <3 getting tats so much that just hearing the buzz makes my mouth water. Have fun!

    Congrats!

Just breathe and relax... If you focus on it and think it's going to hurt, you'll convince yourself that it does... I was told the one behind my ear was going to really hurt... I didn't feel a thing! It was done before I knew it...

Oh, and they recommend Preparation H - which works - but I got the goo from the tattoo shop when I did my hand tattoo, and it worked better... But, definitely put the stuff on as recommended... Aids in the healing process

Congratulations! Try to relax and when/if it hurts, as the others have said, focus on your breathing. The spine will not be real pleasant but it's not horrible.

It's going to hurt so forget about wondering that. Don't take any alcohol and don't take any pills that will think your blood...you'll bleed more.

Just suck it up and take it....demand you post pictures on this same thread.

    : )

    Enjoy

I used Aquiphor or however you spell it on mine after I had it done and it worked extremely well. Mine was also on my back. What are you having inked on you?

A fellow vet uses a cream called LMX4, which is a local anesthetic that's rapidly absorbed into the skin. She uses it for exotic critters for blood draws, but she put some on before her last tattoo and said she didn't feel a thing. YMMV, and I don't know how readily available it is, whether you'd need your doctor to write a prescription or anything. I don't do humans. ;-)

So its half done! YAY! It looks amazing I am so happy with the progress.

I know this might soung weird but it really didn't hurt; even over my spine. In fact the closer he got to a bone the more the vibrations made a tickling sensation. He said I was a good client for sitting still for so long. We did 3 hours last night and we will do 3 more in about 2 1/2 weeks. Gonna try and post a pic.
