HOW DO YOU CALCULATE CALORIES BURNED FROM WEIGHTS

I know you burn calories from doing weights but MFP really doesn't say what they are when you're recording. It just wants to know how many sets, how many reps, and the weights but it never subtracts anything from your caloric intake. Can anyone help?

I'd like to know that too. Our trainer has us doing a lot of dumb bell work. I log it but never see calories from it either.

This site has been pretty accurate from what I can tell: http://www.healthstatus.com/calculate/cbc

wondering that myself. I do 60 minutes of continous hi rep lifting with little rest between sets. my heart increases. I break a sweat. but no calorie input into my goals. there must be a way to figure it out!

Here's what MFP says about strength training calories:
Estimating the calories burned from strength training is very difficult because it depends on a variety of factors: how much weight you lifted per repetition, how vigorously you performed that exercise, how much rest you took between sets, etc. Because of this, we do not automatically calculate how many calories you burned from strength training exercises.

However, if you'd like, you can add "Strength training" as a cardio exercise to get a rough estimate of how many calories you burned. Please be aware though that this is definitely a rough estimate and can be fairly inaccurate.
  • Not sure how many calories burned with weight training, so many variables. I do CrossFit, most of the combined movements are for time, anywhere from 10-20 minutes but high intensity. How do I calculate the calories burned??

    Thanks

There is an entry called "Strength training (weight lifting, weight training)" under the Cardio Exercise so you need to enter that in addition to your reps/wts. My HRM shows that my 30-min circuit (8-9 exercises for 12 x 2 reps, no resting) burns about 200 calories. I'm just getting back into working out at the gym so I don't lift heavy.
