What (who) annoys you at the gym?

The old man last Sunday that was staring at me on a machine and then started trying to convince me to use a different machine WTF leave me alone.0

Also the lady that was walking around naked in the locker room with a huge BUTTerfly covering her rear, and got mad at me when she caught me looking. . It was huge and weird and I couldnt look away0
-
I can't stand the women who walk around and act like they are better then everyone else. Oh, snd the chick yesterday that went into the steam room in a g string and bra with half her who ha showing...ewww!0

i just hate when all the ellipticals and stair steppers are taken and i have to use some weird machine from outer space.0
-
liitle people using them !!!0

It's pretty hard to annoy me, but I always wonder about the people who walk in, jump up on the elliptical while wearing jeans and a shirt, and just sort of hang out there for 10 minutes barely moving at all...0

Normally I don't like judging the people in the gym because they're at the gym. That's a step forward whether they are stepping towards the right direction or not. Also, just because they are on their cell phones doesn't mean they are just messing around, for all I know they are awaiting news from someone in the hospital.
But that's not the point. I've seen people in the gym not working out and that's life. People don't always do what they set out to do. The most annoying thing I've seen so far though is when a trainer (YES A TRAINER WHO WORKS IN THE GYM AND SHOULD KNOW BETTER) was holding up a machine because he was chatting to the person on it.
My workout buddies (and myself of course) were waiting to use it and we asked the guy in the machine how many sets he had left.
His answer: "I just need one more"
That one more set took 4 other exercises me and my buddies completed. It was three of us that day. We do four sets per exercise. That means this guy hogged the machine for 48 sets!
If it were two people chatting away, I'd be fine with it. I'd be annoyed, but I understand. This was a trainer (not the guy's trainer, just a trainer who doesn't seem to be working) chatting someone's ear off and not letting the guy do his thing. Seriously?0 -
Not annoying but a source of comic relief.
People walking around with their "lats" (quotes because they usually don't any) flared out with their elbows up walking around like they're too big to fit through a door frame.0 -
Hmm I have to say the girls who go and chest press 5 pounds and ask for a spot.. really?! Or, the obnoxious grunts and screams when doing weights :S
Never underestimate the power of the bar. 5 extra pounds can mean a total of 40lbs in some benches. It's smart to have a spot for chest press even if its little weight, you never know when a muscle is suddenly going to tense up between reps.
The grunts and screams do get annoying but understandable. Those grunts and screams give them the energy they need to finish it. If its 3 grunts, I don't mind it. Once it gets to 5 consecutive grunts, I think they should have waited another set to attempt the current weight.0 -
We have a chronic cigarette smoker who visits our gym daily. Not only does it smell like she smoked a carton of the cheapest cigs in the world, but she bathes in perfume to try to mask it. It is so terrible...in the shower one day, I thought someone was actually smoking in the stall next to me. I'm all for anyone coming to the gym, but don't put the cigarette out on the way in! It is very disrespectful - especially since they keep our gym smelling rather nice which amplifies the smell of cologne/perfume and yes...SMOKE.0

To be honest the only thing that has ever bothered me at gyms has been the staff. I tend to get into a "zone" and focus very hard and tune everything out and when staff try and talk to me, it throws me off and is really distracting. Others I pay no attention to. So I look for gyms where the staff speaks to you when you speak to them. That probably sounds bad, but that is why I do not go to gyms that have staff that coaches you. If I want a trainer, I will get a trainer. Otherwise the interruptions cause me to lose focus and nor preform as well. So I am not a meany I just like what I like in a gym.
That is annoying. The staff in my gym would say hi and continue moving. I think that's fine (given that I was in resting and not during a set), in fact, I think that's friendly. If they start a conversation while I am still working out, I would be very annoyed. Thankfully, they only converse after the workout when we greet and catch up. I tend to have a good relationship with some of the staff members.0 -
GYM BUNNIES!!!!
1) Take your make up off!!
2) Tie your hair up
3) Ditch the wonderbra
4) SWEAT *****!!!
I love that..."Gym Bunnies"0 -
the couple who makes out every sunday by the leg press machine.0

My only gripe, really, is very minor...parents who bring their kids and let them run wild, and then they run all around, physically getting in the way of people running, walking, lifting, etc...I just try to go when there are fewer kids, early in the morning, before work...

Hey sexy, you need a spotter?0 -

Have you dabbled?0 -
The only thing that bothers me right now is this group of the same 3 guys who will stand around various machine; not using the machines just standing around them not allowing anyone else to use them.
Those guys come to my gym too! They think the bench in like the water cooler in a gossipy office.0 -
too much perfume/colonge!! DEATHTRAP!0
-
this thread annoys me more than anything at the gym cuz I am too busy working out to worry about what everyone else is or isn't doing.0

People who bring an entire carton of milk...Is that normal?0

*kitten* that don't re-rack their *kitten*.
it is not part of my workout to put your effing plates back.0 -
Dropping weights and failure to re-rack. Six inches is one thing. One gym I frequent has guys dropping them from a few feet up. Great to dodge an 80 pound dumbbell while trying to get in a set. And please, please re-rack your stuff. Personally I think failure to do so should get one ejected.0

there's a group of college-age guys who are in the whirlpool every night when i want to go in. they piss me off because they take up the whole thing and don't actually go IN. they just sit on the edge and let their feet dangle in while they chit chat for an hour.
i also got super annoyed by some chick who came into the sauna fully dressed and playing music on her ipod. like.... can you not recognize this is a place for relaxing? i don't want to listen to your ****ty music. put some ****ing earbuds in.0 -

no one is that busy when they're working out.0 -
When I first joined they scheduled a "free consultation" for me which turned out to be a high pressure, hard sell sales pitch for a personal trainer. NO means NO. How many times do I have to say NO? The following week I ran into the sales guy in the locker room and he tried to sell me again. The last thing I need at the gym is someone pressuring me and making me want to avoid them. Thankfully, he backed off.0

People who grunt and make loud noises when on cardio machines. Save it for the weight room geez. I nearly fell off the elliptical one day after some woman yelled cause she ran 10 minutes straight. And continued to grunt like a man about every 5 minutes. She never even realized everyone on the cardio machines all moved over to the left side of the room cause she was being so loud and annoying. :explode:0

Nothing annoys me at the gym. I get there do my thing and get out. Nothing annoys me at the gym unless it's directly affecting me; which nothing ever has.0
