3 Month Blood Work Results: If ur starting 2day, u can do it

Just over three months ago my doctor ordered advanced blood work for a cardio wellness workup. My weight was up (BMI = 33) and I think my doctor knew that at 43, I was probably going down the wrong path. The results weren't good. All my numbers were at High Risk from every kind of cholesterol number including particle size to low vitamin D levels. I was insulin resistant and looking ripe for heart disease and Type II diabetes. It scared me and I made changes immediately. I started tracking on MFP, got a FitBit and started walking, started following a heart healthy diet by cutting red meat, reducing refined carbs, increasing whole grains, lean proteins, and fruits and veggies, and added a variety of heart healthy supplements.

I scheduled my 3 month blood work for Valentine's Day - what better day to show myself a little love.

I just got the results this morning and the change in lifestyle has worked. I've lost 18 pounds. Almost all my numbers are trending the right way with many key ones having gone from High Risk to Optimal!! I'm no longer insulin resistant!! I'm thrilled and looking forward to continuing the path.

Maybe you're starting today and you got some bad news from recent blood work. I want to tell you that you can do it. The numbers can change. When I saw those numbers three months ago, I knew that where I was headed was not how I saw the future me. I didn't see myself taking prescriptions to maintain healthy numbers. I didn't see myself testing my blood sugars. I didn't see myself having a heart attack. You can do it. Start slowly. I started by walking three times a day and now I'm walking 10k steps and taking spinning twice a week. I'm fitting into clothes I haven't fit into in 4 years, but most of all, I've changed my future and I know you can too.

Let the numbers scare you. Let the numbers motivate you. Ultimately, they will free you.

Thank you! That is the motivation I need to hear. I got numbers last week and decided to make some changes after the Dr wanted to put me on meds for Cholesterol, cardio, and others. I also am facing breast cancer surgery next week and I guess I have sleep apnea as well. I started walking 2 miles a day, albiet slowly and tracking my food here. I am hoping to get those numbers down, too.

All the best to you. I know you can do it. I started by walking just 10 or 15 minutes three times a day.

OutSTANDING!!!!! I know you are proud and happy! (And relieved, too, I'm sure!)

My goal (besides being cute again) is to get off the BP meds.

It was a powerful thing for me to see those numbers. It it was drives every decision I make now. The decisions are easier but like last night we had a huge snowstorm and after many rounds of shoveling snow, the 'healthy' foods in our house just weren't going to cut it. So we walked to the grocery store to get frozen pizza. While I wanted pepperoni. I chose a healthy Kashi pizza with whole grains, fiber and no meat. I felt a lot better making that choice and it still satisfied my pizza fix.

    Good luck!!

Thanks. I decided to post it because I know what it was like to get those numbers and thought maybe that's why someone just joined that day...just like I did.

Keep it up. I'm not stopping.
