I get really hungry in the middle of the night and it prevents me from sleeping. I always have a snack and usually end up falling asleep. Sometimes I wake up again a few hrs later and have ANOTHER snack! I don't know if its a mental thing and my body just expects to eat at that time now or if I'm truly hungry. I always add the calories into my daily alottment but it sort of sucks having 200-400 cals gone by the time i even wake up for the day. Has anyone else been having this problem? How did you overcome it? Do you just have to force yourself to not do it no matter what? Im planning on increasing my calories overall so I hope this will help but geesh! Even on days I do seem to eat plenty it happens. Getting really sick of this!!

I have trouble sleeping if I'm hungry when I go to bed so I finish up my day with a protein shake. I haven't had a problem.

Having said that, I have never woken up because I was so hungry. That might be something to go see a doctor about. I really don't know.

Are you sure you're eating enough during the day? If you are not eating back all your calories, maybe you should for a while, just to make sure you are satisfying your body's needs.

If you are eating back your calories, try having a hot drink instead of a snack in the middle of the night... a warm milk or some herbal tea. Sometimes, that's enough to help train your body not to need food late at night.

Also (and this is probably going to make some people a little upset), I had to learn not to panic when I am hungry. I had to teach myself that I would get to eat more tomorrow... I didn't need to have that now, that my body would be fine, even though I was feeling a little hungry. Of course, if you are absolutely starving, you should eat.

I agree with this. I had to learn that hunger is not an emergency. However, make sure that you are eating a satisfying dinner and enough throughout the day and you shouldn't need to eat in the middle of the night.
I think the tea suggestion is a good idea. Put a little Stevia in it and it gives your body something to digest.
  • I use to do that too I was gaining weight but I was told to drink lots of water and that kinda kept me full or eat cereal that should help you

I always drink a glass of water right before I go to bed. It helps me not to feel hungry if I'm going to bed later than I should (and way too long since dinner), and it helps me not to feel dehydrated in the morning.
