Who needs salad dressing when....?

So, I am always looking for new salad dressings to try but nothing ever satisfies me! To be honest, my favorite "salad dressing" is actually just plain ol' balsamic vinegar (no oil)! But somehow I failed to recall using the last of it (maybe it wasn't even me) so I was left without yesterday. I have tons of other dressings in the fridge, but all high calorie and fat content or just nothing that appealed to me. This left with a need to get creative, which I usually never am! I started looking through my cabinets and came across a bottle of Mrs. Dash Galric & Herb blend. So I thought, "That's a start. Maybe mix it with some olive oil?" But then I thought against it. I didn't want the calories from it. I use it daily in cooking so I reap enough of the benefits in it there. And then a lightbulb went off! "Lemon juice!!" I have heard of people using lemon juice in dressings often, but usually paired with the olive oil. Hoping for the best, I shook on some of the Mrs. Dash and squeezed on about 1 Tbsp & 1/2 of ReaLemon lemon juice. Voila! It was fantastic!! Both are virtually zeros all across the board except the lemon juice which has minimal carbs and some Vitamin C. It sounds a little strange, but let me tell you....Yum-O!!!

Another good substitute for salad dressing is some fresh salsa. Mmm... and maybe some Parmesan.

If you put enough junk on your salad a dressing is completely unecessary. I like getting salads from Chipotle with peppers, onions, black beans, chicken and corn. I'm with you on the balsamic and lemon juice too, I like flavors that enhance your salad, rather then masking them in ranchy blah...

"Ranchy blah"!! LMAO!! That is so funny!!

I am 31 years old and just recently have tried working tomatoes back into my diet. I have not liked them in at least 25 years, so the salsa route might still be a little further down the road. I have forced myself to eat some lately and I didn't hate it.

You see, I am Italian and I LOVE garlic, so that is why this is so appealing to me!! I think the parmesan might be a nice compliment to that as well! Okay....I just had a salad but I think I need another on in order to experiment!

Lemon is great! add a pinch of freshly ground sea salt and pepper to it too! yummm!... I actually use 1 tbsp lemon juice and 1/2 tbsp of olive oil and I LOVE IT!!!!!... you can also mix some dijionaise (from hellmans i think, its has like 20 calories or something) with some balsamic vinegar and that makes a great dressing too.
  • I'm going to have to try that

Mmmm....the Dijonaise and Balsamic sounds delicious!!

I tried just the salt and pepper at first but it was still lacking. (I left that part of the story out. ) That is when I tried the Mrs. Dash. I like it b/c there is no sodium. being on HBP meds for the last year, I try and avoid salt as much as I can. (I don't have any sea salt in the house although I have been meaning to get some.)
