Question about Deadlifts

Is it okay to do deadlifts with an EZ bar? The barbells are always monopolized when I'm at the gym, so I'm looking for a decent alternative. Any suggestions?

So your hands would be at an angle to your forearm as you grip the bar? I would say that sounds not so good. Maybe use dumbells instead.
  • You're going to have to wait in turn. Or, if someone is using a similar amount of weight as you, ask to work in with them - they do their set, you adjust the weights, then do your set, adjust the weights. Etc etc.

Don't shrink from what you want. You have just as much right to use the bars as anyone. Step up.

Just ask if you can get your set(s) in with them while they're resting. It's generally not a problem. Plus, dudes love to see girls deadlifting.

Dumbells are awesome for deadlifting and for doing rows. I prefer DB's over the barbell....except for squats

One caveat about using dumbells is that it changes the exercise a little bit -- with a barbell, the weight is a little bit more in front of your body -- with dumbells, the weight is more or less aligned with your body.

I think dumbells consequently move some of the stress from your backside to your quads. Still good, but different.
