What does "Bump" mean.

I see it in many posts and don't know why it's there. Would someone explain?

    Just means someone is "bumping" the thread up to the top for later reading, or to get it more attention so other's will post. Every time someone post to a thread, it moves back to the the top of the page. So easy to just type "bump" and move it up.

    It means one of two things:
    1. I'm bringing this post back to the first page, because it got buried before receiving an answer.
    2. "I'm too stupid to add this thread to my favorites, so I'll just litter this one so I can find it easy."

    "Bring up my post"

    It has several uses. It brings up a post that you bumped (by basically making a post in that thread. Doesn't have to bump only, can be anything) so that its in the top of the page now versus page 2, 3, deep shadows of the interwebs, whereever.

    It also makes it so when you click on "My Topics" you can see that post in that list. It now appears as a thread you've posted in so if you're busy and/or not near a computer, you can check it out later.

    And it also shows the thread on your newsfeed. So now your friends list members know about it.

    I'm sure there are other purposes of it but these are the only ones I could think of right now

    Reminds me of a '76 Malibu I bought new. First thing I did was change out the radio. Put in a Craig PowerPlay with a 97 watt amp (tiny by today's standards, but HUGE in the mid-70s) and a 4-band graphic equalizer. Fed the sound to four Jensen speakers.
    The bass response would vibrate my rear-view mirror to the point where it was useless.
    I loved that rig!
    Wish I had it back.
