Gaining Weight Before Losing? Help

I'm currently 294lbs 5'7 and just started my diet/working out this past Sunday.
Before this past Sunday I'd probably eat between 3000-4000 calories everyday.
Since Sunday I've stayed under 2000 calories everyday.
My question is, is it normal to gain weight before you start losing?
I've been to the gym everyday since Sunday doing about 30min-45min of cardio each time, and also doing some light lifting switching between arms and legs.
I weighed myself today just to see if the 5 days had shown any results and I actually gained a pound.
Now I know this is a small sample size being I just started and 1lb isn't a huge deal but it made me wonder if its normal.

I had the same frustrations when I started to work with a trainer/step up my exercise. I know it feels awful and almost counterproductive but you will gain weight at first. Your body is really trying to figure out what is going on and also using the water to help repair/mend the muscles that are now working harder than before.
Hang in there! It will even out. Promise.0 -
Thanks that's helpful.
I'm not discouraged at all, just curious if that was common.0 -
It's happened to me. I will weigh the same for several days, then gain like 3 pounds, then *poof* down 5 pounds. Or I will stay the same for like two weeks, then *poof* down 2 or 3 pounds.0

Muscles may be retaining water while they repair after lifting. Also make sure you are drinking enough water. (More water you drink= less water weight)0
