Proving my doctor WRONG! ;)

I need to lose about 90#. Starting this journey again has been something I tried lots of times and I tried lots of ways to get there. I lead a busy life - I am a mom of 3 ages 1-7, a Realtor, a jeweler, and a retail store owner. Life in the fast (food) lane is convenient and takes lityle thought and no effort. I basically have been too busy to take care of "me".

In October of last year, I saw my doc for extreme fatigue. This wasnt "oh I am tired"... This was "I am having a hard time waking up, making it through my day, keeping my eyes open at all". I decided I had something serious wrong. My doc ran tons of tests including a sleep study. Checked out that all was "normal". He basically said it was just bc I am fat. He wrote out prescriptions and charged me $120+/month to o so. I lost 6# in 3 months on the meds he gave me (which made me jittery anyway) :/ #depressing ... So I stopped going and tried to get back on the weight loss journey on my own thinking there was no solution for energy except "skinny-ness". Ahhh... Sooooo far to go! :/

A friend of mine started losing weight (20+# her first month and she was telling me about her through the roof energy)... Sign me up, PLEASE!!!!

So, less than 2 weeks ago I started the same natural supplements and protein shakes and my weight and inches are shedding and since day 1, my energy is through the roof!!! So much for his theory of no energy unless you are skinny! I think I will pay the big bucks next month to show him he had it all wrong!! ;)

    Wait.

Your doctor said you had no energy because you are overweight.

You started losing weight, and found you had more energy, just as most people I've met have reported when losing weight.

I think that what you've proved your doctor begins with the "ruh" sound, but it's not wrong.

I'd like to place an order for 10,000 WoW gold as well, but please direct it to server Bronzebeard.

To the OP: You have more energy because you lost weight, not because of supplements and protein shakes.

Unfortunately DOCTORS give out DRUGS. It's basically what they're there for. I'm glad you've figured out a natural way to better yourself and get energy. If you don't mind me asking what supplements are you taking? I have a problem with being extremely tired All The Time. It's a combination of weird work schedule, anemia, and just plain laziness. But I started taking a B vitamin complex every day and it seems to be a helping a little bit.

...and after reading some pervious posts people on these message boards ARE super vicious. Just try not letting it get to you. :) (I've lost 30lb and it hasn't helped my energy level all that much) so maybe those supplements and protein shakes are helping. I definitely know a change in eating habits will give you more energy. Fast food just weighs you down!

And my main point is that my doc's solution gave me zero energy and he had me popping pills and charged me every month to say the same thing even though I was eating right and all!

I can't even remember the server I played on.

This is either a really good sign that I'm completely recovered from my addiction or a really bad sign that my memory is really deteriorating.

Oh, and OP, congrats on losing weight (by consuming fewer calories than you burned) and feeling more energetic as a result. It's a popular theme around here. But you might want to consider cutting back on those shakes and replace them with more reasonably-priced regular food though.

A post you made less than 30 days ago:

Personally, I am not looking for "secret pills or shakes". I have lost 45# before and lost my motivation to keep going. No need for you to rain on anyone's parade - to each their own!

OP, your post reads like you're trying to sell something. Maybe I'm being "vicious," but the the sales pitch you wrote won't go over well for some people. It also doesn't prove your doctor wrong.

congrats on your new found success. Yes herbal supplements can help with chronic fatigue and such; just make sure they are safe. I have used some in the past with success (not for weight loss but for other issues. One poster made mention that as you are losing weight you are increasing energy... yet at the same time, you had to have the energy necessary to get up and do the things necessary to lose weight. I have found that protein shakes do help (I have just added them as part of my strength training regimen. Sometimes you just need that extra boost to get through that work out and it is quick energy (the right ones) and it is also quick protein for muscle repair which is necessary to build lean mass... Everything in proper balance. Congrats on your success. Keep at it but research those supplements carefully so you have the best knowledge as to possible side effects, etc.

Fatigue may also be related to your busy lifestyle... If you are constantly stressed and overwhelmed in what you are having to accomplish, then it can lead to the weight gain and depression... Keep everything in check for optimum health.

Anemia would be the first problem to solve (you need iron especially if you menstrate), sleeping would be the solution.

Yep still losing weight naturally - no magic working here. Now, I just have energy that I didnt have before to workout and make it through my days. I have been on mfp for a while and yep, I know "how this works". I have done shakes for 2 years as supplements - not meal replacements. Nothing new in that department - and they are not secret fixes! Can y'all go attack elsewhere?

My apologies that my post came across as vicious. It was intended as caustic sarcasm.

I'm happy that you found something that gave you some energy. But finding a supplement that gives you energy doesn't mean that your doctor was wrong about the root cause of your fatigue.

On MFP, anything but glowing praise and blanket agreement = attacks.

And this is why I hate everyone...

My iron levels and sleep study was fine. I know Doctors dole out drugs, but I had hoped mine would say something besides "take a pill". I am off sugar, bad carbs, and pretty much any drink besude water. That alone has been awesome for me! I def proving him wrong bc diet pills arent the answer for me at least!

Congrats on feeling better. Whatever works for you, works for you, so stick w it if it's not dangerous.

Honestly, your post does sound like a sales pitch, so it's not surprising that people are riled really. You admit that you've been here a while and "know how this works", but you wrote a post that has no backing and sounds too good to be true.

You say that the weight and inches are shedding off, then say that your increase in energy isn't due to weight loss b/c you haven't lost that much. And we have NO idea what you were eating before (because I'm too lazy to check every one's diaries, sorry), so maybe the protein shakes ARE better than what you were doing. So, yeah... it's a little hard to decipher what you're really getting at.

At any rate, I think that you CAN write good posts that won't get you "attacked" if you want... just consider your audience and evaluate whether your post is truly conveying your message and only your message before you put it up. The environment is not likely to change, but your approach to it can.

This site is supposed to be a place to receive support not to be poked at by people with nothing else to do. Yes I know how this works and how to lose weight. Been here and have done it. Excited to be back on the wagon and sorry there are people with nothing better to do than analyze my excitement. If you cant support others then why bother to post at all? I support people in being healthier. Period. Thanks to those of you who help motivate me to keep working toward my goal!

I don't see anything wrong with constructive criticism. I fear by saying this you will think I'm "attacking" you, but many of these posts are simply trying to help you be better at explaining yourself.

Doctor's tend to use drugs because they are backed by the FDA and often get "kickbacks" on prescriptions. But the bottom line is, you aren't a Doctor, or someone that has formal education in health (as far as I know). It seems to me that you want to attack your Doctor. Why? He/she was trying to help you the way that their education has shown them.

Congrats on finding something that works for you. Good luck on your journey. :)

I think you'll find you don't need shakes or supplements to lose weight, just eat well at a calorie deficit.
