I'm looking into starting more of strength training on Monday. I would love to get some advice on it since this will be my first time actually going into without a workout video. Currently for exercise I do 30 day shred level 2 (I don't follow the plan I do it when I want) and her other video Extreme shed and shred. I work out 5x a week. Mostly resting on weekends. I do everything at home and I have 5lb hand weights. I really need more work on my upper body the most.
So I would like to know what kind of workouts I can do for upper and lower body. I would like to break it up to working on lower half only on a certain day and upper half on another certain day then do my cardio inbetween the other days.

Body revolution has it broken down kind of like that. Front of the body, back of the body then cardio each 2 times a week.0

google "stronglifts", "new rules of lifting for women", and "starting strength". those should help you get off to a great start.0

If all you have is 5 lb weights, then you need to do bodyweight exercises or get some real weights.
IS there a reason you want to do a split?0 -

I actually need heavier weights just can't get them at the moment. Theres no reason for me to split them up, just thought it would be better that away. I've always stuck with workout dvds and I'm trying to go into this without using a dvd for once so I'm really clueless. I'll do some research about it like the above person suggested.0 -

I do the hasfit strength training for beginners. I just started this month. I do this 3x/week. The first week I used 5 lb weights. It was pretty easy. The second week I decided to see if I could do it with 10 lb weights and I've been using the 10 lbs ever since. You want to feel like you got a good workout in.
