I downloaded and tried a belly daning video, it was agood workout, but I think it was a little advanced for someone who had never done it, they didnt explain any of the terminology or give an overview, they just jumped right in. It seems like somehting that would be fun to take an actual class with an instructor. If anyone has ever done it and has any suggestions I would love to hear them (and I went over by 200 today darnit)

hi! My best friend is actually a belly dance instructor, and takes her classes through very basic but very fun routines!

i Highly suggest trying to find a class! even if you only go to a few, maybe then you can better understand your video and be able to use it often!

if you have a myspace, let me know, i could link you up with her! Happy dancing!

Bellydance Superstars have a great line of beginner through advanced instructional tapes. Jillina's is one of the best rated / selling in the country (I have watched the beginning tapes and they walk you through step by step) and the Yoga and Bellydancing by Rachel Brice is also one of the most popular.

An actual class would be great to have some personal feedback.

I am a geo-bachlelorette, so i have the kids 90% of the time by myself, so it is hard to take classes. But, I will check out those beginner tapes. I think the one I got was called johan's

Belly dancing is great. Our gym offers a class and the instructor is Fantastic. If you get the chance I highly recommend a class, though I understand how tough it can be with kids. Keep it up!

I started bellydancing a couple of months ago and really enjoy it! I go to a class in the city and it's been really nice to have a teacher who can give you live feedback, plus she really pushes us according to how fast we are picking up steps!

Definitely get to a class if you can make it, it makes a huge difference, plus it's so fun to be with all the other women!

Check your Y. Many offer BD classes (or you can suggest they ad one and they may.) My membership is $30 bucks a month and best thing is they have childwatch included! It is so worth it to get an hour away from the kid(s) a day!

I had not even thought about that. I have to work out at the base gym because I can go while I am at work and she is at the bb sitter. I am gonna look the Y up here...
