The Fitbit Challenge

So, I've had my Fitbit (pedometer) for a couple of month's now and I never though I could get to 10,000 steps a day. Truth be told, it's still hard with my busy schedule, but I have gotten my whole family into it, so we are having fun as well as getting a bit more fit.

How many steps a day did you used to, and now?

That Fitbit and MFP... I I have to these tools do work if you use them consistently.

What say you?

I have only had my fitbit for about a month....My highest step count is over 13000 thanks to a tough zumba class, but I normally step around 8000 a day
  • I was at 5,000-6,000 per day, but now I average around 13,000 or so after a couple months of use... that little pedometer is a motivator, that's for sure!!

I've had mine since 12/1/12 and when I started I was getting 10,000 or above and I still get 10,000 but more like 15,000-20,000 a day. I also get in about 20 flights of stairs a day! The FitBit is very motivating and really helps to keep more accurate track of how active you are being so you know how many calories you really burn. I used to under estimate mine and ended up not eating enough so I stopped loosing weight because my body was fighting to keep what it had. I started loosing lots of weight again with the help of the FitBit!

Uhm... I'd be dead ... But that's awesome! Having a job behind a desk and 3 active kids, I squeeze it in where I can.

I found that www.walking4fun.com has gotten me to increase my steps. I use an Omron 303. the site has photos of 3 different trails. (Spain, France, and USA) As you 'walk' the trail you get to see the photos of where you have been, with a map. Friends on the same trail can race for a friendly competition.

I look at the fitbit website a couple of days ago, when I was looking for a HRM and calorie counter watch.. I didn't fully understood how that little thing worked.. Can anyone explain it to me..??? Does it count the calories you burn too???

I have the Zip, which is a small device that clips to your pocket. It gives a reading on Steps, Cals burned, Distance walked, and has this annoying little alien guy to sticks his tongue out at you when he thinks you are being too lazy.

I seems to be fairly accurate. I do find it has helped my on this journey and it integrates with MFP, so it makes tracking much easier. I'm sold so far.
  • I'm just using a regular pedometer, but shooting for 10,000 steps a day. By early evening, if I'm not close, I either go for an extra walk or hit the treadmill to hit my goal. It seems that my daily routine gets me about 6500 steps, and then I have to work to get up to 10K. I think it's worth it though.....
