Need help with weights!

I'm heading to the gym on Tuesday with my best friend. My intention now is to tone up so after reading things on here, I want to start lifting/weight training. But I'm at a loss. I have NO idea what to do. Most of my exercise is cardio (running, yoga, walking the dog, etc) and haven't been to a gym in years.
Where do I even start with weights?? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

See if they have a trainer who can help you get started.0

starting strength or stronglifts 5x5 should be good for you.0

I would say work with a trainer for a month or so and then you can learn what to do. Do your own research too, bodybuilding.com has good plans and explanations, in addition to any strength training book you pick up. The new rules for lifting for women seems to be popular0
