INSANITY PLEASE HELP!

I've decided to give insanity ago and of course what's the first thing that terrifies me? the amount of calories they're telling me to eat.

Ok so according to the Insanity Elite Nutrition book this is how I work out my calories:

Step 1 - Maintenance calorie needs:
I'm gonna go by sedentary calorie needs so that means I have to multiply my weight in pounds by 12. 212 x 12 = 2544

Ok so according to this book I have to consume 2544 calories to maintain my weight

Step 2 - Insanitized calories:
Ok so doing Insanity daily I will have to add 600 calories to my maintenance in order to maintain my weight while doing this workout. 2544 + 600 = 3144

Step 3 - Modification of my needs
According to this book I have subtract 500 calories from my Insanitized calorie needs to lose weight while on Insanity. 3144 - 500 = 2644

Now is it just me or does this number seem a bit too much? Who else here is doing insanity? I start tomorrow and I'm really confused on how much I should eat. I tried calling customer service on beachbody but they're **** and have no idea how to even help me or answer a question on a product that they're selling! and I tried applying for team beachbody but they don't sign on people outside of the US or Canada :grumble:

Should I eat this many or eat less?

Not sure about Insanity, but I am half-marathon training. Running 25 miles per week, I eat 3200 calories a day, at 5'10" and 160 pounds, and am losing about half a pound to a pound a week. The reason I say this, is that I have heard that Insanity is very intense. It is very possible you would have to eat that much and still be able to lose weight. You will definitely need the calories to even be able to handle the intensity of insanity, too few calories could cause you to faint while doing it.
  • If you work your hardest, trust me, you will need to consume those calories. That workout will burn off everything. The first thing you will see go is water weight. After that, nothing but fat cells shrinking. If you are concerned about too many calories, just leave off some of the snacks. But you will need the protein for that workout. Doesn't have to be meat protein if you are a vegetarian or vegan.

You are going to have so much fun! LOL! You will feel amazing when you make it through your first few workouts!

I did the program, and I was eating a LOT of calories...well over 2000 (Can't remember the exact amount now). The program is very intense and I think that's why you caloric intake needs to be so high. I lost 14lbs doing the program, so I defiantly needed those calories :)

What you could maybe do is use the calories that MFP recommend and invest in a heart rate monitor. I have the polar ft7. The HRM will then tell you how many calories your burned during exercise so you know how many you should eat back.

I'm doing Insanity (month 2 week 2 tomorrow) and I do not use their nutritional planner. I use MFP and I'm tracking according to my TDEE. I eat about 75% of my exercise cals back and no, you are not always going to burn 600 cals per workout. I have been averaging about a 1lb/week loss.

If you want to track this way, here are a couple good threads to get you started.

    Good luck :flowerforyou:

Edited to Add: There are several Insanity groups on MFP so you may want to join for more info.

I did Insanity two months ago.
The first days I tried to eat low calories... but I was as hungry as a wolf... and I felt that I got weaker.
So I raised the amount of the calories.
After the 63 days I didn't lose much weight... but inches!
My body got toned up... and that was my goal.

Insanity is insane... and very intense.
You need energy to do it, so follow the Insanity Nutrition book.
    It is worth it.

It does seem a little high. When I did Insanity, I set my base calories in here for my TDEE -10%. I also had a HRM and are back my calories,

I am 5'3, 130 lbs. TDEE - roughly 10% is 1550. My TDEE is around 1700 (since I had a boring desk job) and the first month videos burned around 350 calories. I ate at between 1900 and 2000 a day.

    I am 5ft5 and 128lbs, and i maintain on net 2000 cals.

I have just started insanity, and seem to be burning 350ish cals so will be eating those back as I am just trying to lose a bit of bodyfat. I think I would be too hungry to eat on a deficit while doing it to be honest.

I am indeed on Insanity, just finished week 2.

The exercise program is advanced enough, that one has to eat, quite a bit just to maintain and even plenty to lose weight or stall your metabolism to a halt.

Insanity, the materials that is, use the Harris-Benedict Equation to determine intake.

First no, the food (and its macros) are spot on. My first week was basically go it alone, I lost 1.3 lbs. Following a version of their plan (I prefer the Mifflin St Jeor equation, a successot to H-B E as it’s a bit more accurate) I lost 6.7 lbs. They know what they are talking about.

Then you have your macros: your aiming for at least in protein fats and carbs, 40-40-20, although, 50-30-20 is optimum.
And you should join the Insanity group here on MFP, dedicated to results, aptly called GETTING RESULTS WITH INSANITY for support, which is founded by Beachbody coach Shawn Muth.

    MSJ Equation? Found here.

  • Okay so I've just finished month 1 of insanity. Ive noticed that I haven't lost any weight, the scale has actually gone up...But I can see my body getting better & stronger. I used the calorie counter in the elite nutrition book & it says I should be eating 1768 calories a day, is this not enough & why I'm not losing weight??? I did the calorie counter on beachbody also & it said to be eating 2364??! I'm so confused as to which I should be following. I'm wanting to lose about 15 pounds. I eat healthy. I have 1 cheat day. Never skip the workouts.
