How do I start over?

I feel like I need to start over. I'm really struggling with losing and I've honestly given up a bit lately. I feel like I need a new fresh start, but I'm not sure how to do that. I like the free aspects of mfp and I love how easy it is to track on here. But would paying someone do more to motivate me? How should I start over?

  • have you tried to set mini goals for yourself? weekly or monthly ones?
Change up the foods your eating and find a physical exercise you like doing =]

Simply resolve to do better. Start logging every day and checking in. Take it one step at a time.

If it will help out. you can pay me $20 every week that you don't meet your goals.

I signed up for a 5k run to help motivate me. :flowerforyou:
  • Just start fresh on a day you choose. If you mess up, its ok. You will feel worse giving up then continuing on your plan to health. There will be bumps in the road, but dont let them discourage you. If you look at my diary, what I eat is far from perfect, but it is a lot better than what I was doing. Baby steps for me. Just take it min to min, hour to hour and remember the goals you have in mind. Best of luck to you!!!

I'd keep a picture of those two little darlings in every room of the house...and on the fridge! Actually, don't beat yourself up...but pick yourself up and realize you and those children are worth your best...and just start tracking your food and activities again and make those good choices. We all have our down moments but it's what you do about it that really counts. Good luck to you...you can do it! :flowerforyou:
  • Think about what has worked for you in the past, re-incorporate those things as best as you can. Think about reasons you have given up or slacked, then move forward with how you will combat them when they come up again. Having a game plan in place is best.

When I'm hungry or think I am and I am between meals, I eat something that has as few cals as possible, making it as tasteful as possible, love cream cheese, celery is okay, but with the cream cheese, it is a treat, binge averted.

Hate exercise, but love the way it makes me feel. Little black dress that is too small, haninging up in plain view, motivation. Especially with exercise, have a few different options. When you really struggle to get it in, a 10 minute workout, even if it is just turning on some music and dancing.

I have found some great support on this site, so that helps too. Best of luck to you.

Instead of thinking of it as a whole life makeover, make changes you know you can stick with. Little ones are fine.
Having success with small changes will help motivate you to make larger changes and stick with them.

If you are contemplating a change think of how likely you are to stick with it. Rate it on a scale of 1 to 10.
If it's less than 7, modify it or pick something else you know you will be at a 7 or more with.

Plan things out for either every day or a whole week. You can do this by making a to-do list, that you can cross off daily as you do things. That way by the time you get to the end of the week you can see how much you've accomplished each day. Crossing things off and seeing that I crossed them off is a HUGE motivator for me. I'm very planner/type-A .... Start out small ya know. Maybe find a support group or use here that you post daily, and in turn the support you can get from that can help you motivate. The positive response can help keep you going. It takes 21 days to form a habit and a lot of dedication and work to keep that going!!

You got this girl! One step at a time and you will get there. Before you know it you'll have conquered a whole month!!

You don't have to start over. You just have to make a good decision tonight. That's all. Just one. And you'll feel good enough about that decision to make the next good one, and so on and so forth. Doesn't matter what it is - maybe you'll have a healthier dinner. Maybe you'll do a 20 minute workout. Maybe you'll slam down 4 glasses of water. Any good decision is a step in the right direction.

You don't have to start over - you just have to keep doing better. That way you don't have to "give up" and "start over" and beat yourself up for being back at square 1. There is no square 1. There's just you and the next decision.

make sure you set your weekly loss to one pound so you get a good amount of calories to eat. I found the first week was hard for me. I just pushed through ..and then somehow it got fun the second week and beyond. Then, when you find an exercise you like and you get even more calories to eat...it really motivates the exercise part.

If I paid someone, I would definitely be motivated. I hate to part with money, and once it's spent, I'm showing up.

You know yourself - try it if you think it will help. Most trainers will have varying levels of $$$$ commitment. It might be what you need to get you going. Once you have a set routine, it is easier to continue. Habits!

I think that depends on whether you've stopped losing because you're not staying on track or because your body is getting used to the changes you've made. If it's the latter, I was there for quite some time. I figured I had to do something different to start losing again.

If you are stalled, what you might need to do to start losing again will depend on what you're doing right now.
Try adding one thing to your workout routine that you don't normally do. For example, if you don't lift weights, start, or if you have never done yoga, try it.
Try changing up your diet a little. I have no idea what you're currently eating, but when my weight loss stalled I was eating a lot of processed convenience foods (lean cuisines, lean pockets, granola bars full of refined sugar, etc...) I was staying within my calories, but I wasn't losing. After giving up and staying at that weight for a while, I decided to give it another try. This time I'm still working out and counting calories, but I'm not eating the processed stuff anymore, just whole foods including LOTS of fresh fruits and vegetables (with a few exceptions, it's not perfect). I actually started losing again, finally :)

Also, some advice I read recently was this:
Remember to enjoy your *journey* to fitness. Don't get discouraged by how far you might be from your goal.
That kind of helped me in getting back on track. Make sure you do take your eyes off the prize and enjoy each individual step you take in the right direction.
