Overreaction?

First post on here so hello everyone!
Joined a gym and started to cut back on junk food a few months ago and lost a bit of weight in the 6 weeks before Christmas (starting from 268). Downloaded the MFP app at the turn of the year and was delighted with the progress being made each week (first 4 weeks using the app I lost 11 pounds from 256 to 245). Last week my weight remained stationery, which I was fine with as I was away for the week due to work thus through eating out for dinner I didn't expect to eat as well as I have been doing recently. However this week I thought I had a really good week, upping my exercise and being well below my calorie target on the app yet this morning I was up a pound or 2 compared to last week - this I couldn't understand?
Has anyone else suffered a weight increase after what they thought was a really good week? I'm pretty annoyed but not sure if I am just overreacting. Hopefully next week when I step on the scales the result will be better!

I have many times..
I used to get really worked up about it..
hell sometimes I still do..
however, I've been told sometimes it takes longer than a week for your body to show true transformation.. so while the scale says you're up..it doesn't infact mean that..and can be any number of things.... I've read more likely water retention or that your measurements have changed but not necessarily the number..(I always get the whole--muscle weighs more than fat;so its important to take measurements...)..
just give it time, and hopefully you'll see the number your feeling... good luck!0 -
Maybe its because you're staying "well below your calorie target". Maybe try eating closer to your calorie target.0

I was going to say the whole muscle weighs more comment.. Maybe by doing so well your building your muscle mass.... If your clothes are fitting better, or different to where you can see/feel the difference... then your most likely building muscle mass... good luck,... keep it up and dont give up!!!0

It happens to me all the time. My weight loss graph looks like this WWWWWWWWWWWWW except with a very subtle trend downward. All I can do is keep working with it. I know what giving up will look like, been there, done that.0

The muscles sometimes hold on to fluid especially if they are repairing. Since you were exercising a lot, that can be it. I usually have a better weigh in on the day after a rest day with no strenuous exercise. Also, sometimes your body is waiting for the "whoosh", I can go a couple weeks with nothing or be up and then all of a sudden drop 3-4 lbs at once. Change takes time and your body may not be ready to let go yet, it's figuring out how to work with less fuel and more exertion IMO.0

Well people can lose weight when starving themselves without realizing it. I've never understood why anyone would purposely eat under their calorie target, unless its reasonable by 50-100 calories. Especially if they have calories earned from working out. Your body NEEDS those calories and eventually it will catch up to you and start storing fat because its not getting what it needs daily. There are days where I struggle to eat ALL of my calories because of an intense workout and if I have over 200 calories left at the end of the day I'm disappointed.0 -
Maybe its because you are eating well below your calorie goal and exercising more.0

Any of the above reasons. But also, you could be retaining water due to sodium. A gallon of water weighs roughly 8 pounds.0

Took what some of you guys had been saying plus a general feeling of what I read on here and actually had a couple hundred extra calories per day (still averaging a decent amount under my target) and have also started drinking green tea to help with the metabolism and this has resulted in a 3 pound loss this week. Glad to be back on the right track after last week's blip and good to see positive results with eating slightly more than I had been recently!0
