I'm trying Intermittent Fasting. I started one form, Fast 5, 10 days ago. There's an IF group here and plenty of information on the web.

Hi Shelly ! Recording my foods. On MFP really did help me a lot last year. So that is one of my goals to record everything I eat.

Hmmm intermitted fasting sounds interesting I will look into it. Has it been working for you?
  • Just lower your calories. It's very simple. You don't have to do Intermittent fasting to lose weight. Cut 500 calories and aim for a pound a week.

Eandretta I'm targeting to only eat 1200cals and that's kinda hard for me, but cutting 500cals sounds better thanks!
  • Do you know what your maintenance is? Try it out and see how slow or fast you lose.

    :noway:
If' you're only eating 1200, then don't cut 500 calories from that - 1200 is as low as MFP will set you because it's considered to be the bare minimum intake for women. But in most cases, it's even lower than your BMR, which is basically coma calories, and you are most definitely not in a coma. Don't know if that's what you meant in your post, but if so, don't do it! You'll be setting yourself up for more problems in the long run.

Better to calculate your BMR and your TDEE (total daily energy expenditure), and aim to eat in between those two numbers. I found this topic to be very helpful, and a sustainable way to lose the fat and keep it off: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/654536-in-place-of-a-road-map-2-0-revised-7-2-12

Great info, and there are links to tools where you can calculate how much you should be eating. Check it out!
  • I meant if her maintenance is around 1700-1800, cut 500 cals from that.
  • how do you overcome temptation to eat though. my family keeps junk food in the house and its really hard. chocolate is my weakness and so is fast food. no matter how much i exercise i keep going over my calorie limit.

It seems to be, but it's very early and I am only trying to lose some vanity pounds. It definitely has been helping me avoid my tendency to eat when I'm not hungry and at night. For some reason, the act of having made a commitment to eat only in a limited window is all that I need.

But this manner of eating is not supposed to be a quick fix.

Intermittent Fasting, in particular, Fast 5, is helping me. There’s a group on this website with FAQs. Of course, nothing works for everyone.

The Fast 5 website has a free downloadable ebook and there's a Facebook group.

There really isn't much to it.
