Water Fasting?! Opinions, please.

I was just wondering what people's opinions were on water fasting.
Now, I'm aware that you need to break the fast properly and re-start your metabolism and I'm also aware that the weight will NOT stay off if you don't break it properly and you don't change your lifestyle.
Now that's out the way, what does everyone think?
Have any of you done this before, what were your results, did you keep the weight off, if not, why do you think that was?

I have met some small women from India who fasted as a regular part of their life.
They know what they are doing and I wish I knew their methods.
I have tried fasting and gained it back.
There are a lot of people who switch to a juicing fast, sometimes for a couple of days cleanse, some go months and lose weight.
See the movie, Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead, free on Hulu.com. Unbelievable!
The advantage of a juicing fast is that you are getting the nutrition.
He used all raw vegetables. Some use a blender instead of a juicer, so they are getting the fiber with the nutrients.
Forks over Knives is completely new take on food, nutrition, health, disease, and sustainable good health.
Fuhrman's book Fit for Life further teaches in detail if you want it.0 -
Google intermittent fasting. There are quite a few people here who practise that. You'll probaby even find advice in the message boards using search.0

I'm not sure what water fast you are talking about but your metabolism does not crash if you fast for a short period of time (up to 72 hours). There are quite a few people on MFP who practice intermittent fasting as part of lean gains (leangains.com) or Eat, Stop, Eat. I practice intermittent fasting, I fast 16-20 hours per day and 24 hours once or twice per week. There are quite a few health benefits to fasting.0

Our metabolism is not a computer. It does not need to be restarted.0

Well...as someone who was introduced to long-term fasting at a young age, and is in the middle of a long fast, the goal to maintaining your weight before true hunger returns...aka if you decide to break it before you actually feel hungry you have to take it very slow with your body...you should you the amount of time your fast lasted to determine how long you're going use to break it. Eg: let's say you fasted for 20 days on water btw no sodas, no green tea, don't consume other drinks and convince yourself you're on a pure water fast, not the same. As I was saying a 20 day fast would require a 20 day or more, depending on how you feel, period to break. So lets assume on the first three days you make juice out of watermelons or melons and dilute with water and drink for every 2 hours.
Next is just regular juices for the next three days, then whole fruits for the next three, then fruits and veggie juices, then salads, then smoothies(with yogurt)...just take it slow and when you feel strong enough start exercising...resistance training, cardio, and the sort...allow yourself maybe once in a while, maybe every to weeks after you get back to eat a food you really love and practice intermittent fasting. It helps if you know tat you getting spiritual benefits from it.0
