GETTING FRUSTRATED

I have always been a healthy eater and an exerciser. A couple of years ago, after all of my children were born I lost 23 lbs and was super thin (actually, probably too thin) however, over the past year or two the weight has been sneaking back on. I am 46 and exercise three to four times a week religiously. I eat right 95% of the time..... and I eat a max of 1200 calories a day, but I am not losing the weight. I just decided to change up my workout and swapped out some of my classes for different ones... just trying to jump start my metabolism. Does anyone have an suggestion? I have been watching what I am eating (and tracking on myfitnesspal.com for month) and have lost nothing.... help!

  • Hello,

it's really hard to see how to help if we can't see your diary. Also, do you know what your BMR and TDEE is? If you are 5' 0" and currently weigh 100lb, this will be a very different conversation to if you are 6'0" and 300lb.

Also, how much water do you drink each day?

Try calculating your BMR and your TDEE you may not be eating enough I am 5'3" and 165 eat 1800 cals a day and am losing weight. Just google BMR calculator and you will have your pick of alot of them that also help calculate your TDEE

Note: BMR is Basil Metabloic Rate and TDEE is Total Daily Energy Expediture.

    Sorry for the misspellings here.

Are you eating 1200 calories even on days you work out? That's probably part of the issue if so.
  • From everything I have read and what has worked for me and others, I would say you should eat more. You said you eat a max of 1200 calories per day- does that mean sometimes you eat less? You could be slowing your metabolism causing your body to work harder at holding on to everything it can. Good luck!

You really don't have much to lose (according to your ticker), and you've lost 3lbs. When did you start this up? 3 lbs out of 14 over 6-8 weeks is a fine loss. Also, are you really eating less than 1200 calories a day or are you netting 1200 calories a day?

Yeah, unless you are very short, you're not doing yourself any favours by eating 1200 calories/day "MAX" as you said.

Find out your basal metabolic rate (BMR) and your total daily energy expenditure (TDEE). You want to be eating somewhere in between those two numbers....never under BMR.

I'm a female around your age and eat 1800-2000 calories, and have had steady fat losses doing so.
