Has anyone ever had a day where they've had no appetite at all? I have no idea why, but today I have had no appetite. I don't know what to do. I know I need to eat at least 1200 calories today, but I'm barely at 400 and I had to force those down. :(

I went through a 2-3 week phase where I had no appetite, even "food is gross". Eventually I figured out it was actually an aversion to a specific food we had been eating frequently. Once I eliminated that, my appetite came back.

Just do the best you can and eat when you are hungry.

I have days like that. My doctor said one of 2 things is going on. One-my body is acclimating itself to the new way of living. or 2 it is my cycle. Even though I no longer get periods, I still have the 27 day cycle I always did-I am just more aware of it now than before.

I get my 2 days of food aversion and 2 days of chocolate cravings......normal

Fear: Well to be honest I am battling depression right now. I was thinking about it earlier and could I actually be punishing myself by not eating? I don't know. Maybe, maybe not.

DrBorkBork: You know, it might be that, but I really haven't been eating anything lately that I don't like. I'm going to think about this some more and see if there really is a food I'm avoiding. Very interesting opinion. Hmm...

I just ate an apple, but it was more because I knew a should and not because I was hungry. :( This is just so unlike me.

You know what, that might be it too! My TOM started yesterday, but this doesn't usually happen to me, so maybe my body's adjusting to my new way of life?

R.....when I get like this I make myself eat something small every 2 hours. This usually kick starts my appetite again.

Our bodies are wonderful machines. It will stop the presses if it thinks it is starving........even turns off our appetite just incase we are in a famine.

I went through this early on in my diet. When I went from 4000 calories of cheeseburgers and fries, to 1500 calories of spinach and chicken breasts.

An old member on here suggested to eat something small and nutritious every 2 hours.
    I remember I ate

saltines and peanut butter. I know the saltines are yucky for you, but they stayed down. 3 saltines and a tsp of PB
    banana....just 1/2
a slice of whole wheat toast with a bit of butter on it
almonds.....OMG I remember eating the almonds.......and gagging! one at a time I ate them sitting at my desk....

The good news was the next day I was hungry for the 1st time in a week!! I still ate slow and not that much, but I got back up to 1300-1500 a day instead of a week!!:noway:

I hope some of this info helps you honey.........because I know how horrible it feels to NOT be hungry:frown: :flowerforyou:

FOr me it happens around TTOM where especially raw foods that I was preparing to cook plain and simple grossed out!!! It passes after a while, but to keep eating I just stick to foods that have no smell to them, aren't too soft in consistency, and for me they have to have a little salt like saltines. At that time, even Wheat Thins are too much. It passes though so in the mean time, eat small, often, and smart.

I usually go through this on weekends... I had to force myself to eat breakfast this morning. Even yesterday, I forced breakfast and dinner just had a sandwich ( a small one).. no lunch, no snacks, that was IT. I did drink lots of water though.

Today, food just sounds ewwww. Again, just a small sandwich... and my coffee.

I'm also sick right now... so it doesnt help ugh:frown:

I went through a phase like that too. Lasted for about 2 weeks.... The other night I felt the same way. It wasn't even like I was just craving junk. I didn't feel like eating anything.

So, yeah, I get these feelings too. If it doesn't go away, I'm sure the nice people here on MFP can think of something.

I felt like this yesterday. I ate my protein shake and then had to have my snack and get dinner ready and was not feeling it. But, I started dinner and forced myself to eat the snack. I felt a little better and once dinner was ready, I ate it, and I felt a lot better. I think I was just a little fatigued and felt "grossed out" by the food because I was so tired and exhausted from my work out.

I've been feeling like that too! It comes and goes. One day, I will feel SO hungry and I have to eat...the next, the thought of eating food makes me want to barf. Personally, I'm in birth control, so that might have something to do with it. But your eating patterns, metabolism, water intake, hormone levels, and mental wellbeing all come into effect.

Do you think not having an appetite will sabotage my weight loss?

That's a pretty common occurrence with depression. Try to listen to the little wee voice inside of you that knows you need nutrition to be healthy, and do the best you can to get the calories you need. Keep up the effort!
