The only reliable way to boost your metabolism is through gaining muscle. Obviously other things like maintaining good diet (don't starve yourself, basically), limiting stress, and getting enough sleep are all good so that you don't knock your metabolism off course, but to actually boost it and make your body more efficient, you need muscle.0

If you've been eating like that for years then you probably don't need to lose any weight and your body would have adjusted to compensate for it. Why do you want to increase your metabolism?0

thanks to everyone for the advice! honesty my husband has been telling me for years that i need to eat more but it took the MFP food diary to convince me. i worked out at the gym 5 days a week for many years but 2 years ago my grandmother became ill and in order to keep her at home i let go of the gym membership in order to care for her. i recently purchased an elliptical and i LOVE pilates! i'm doing my best to eat more and move more!0

it isn't working for me any more. i have gained 10 lbs in 2 years. i had thought that maybe it was because i hit my mid 30s but maybe it is just my eating habits.0
