So frustrated after a ski injury

I was doing perfect...I had a daily workout and counting the calories every day. Last Thursday, my knee was injured while skiing. Now I can not even walk easily and have to rest. I am so frustrated and don't know what to do. I am really worried that I might not be able to get back to exercising for more than a month or so... Also I might gain more weight since I am lying on bed most of the times!

Am I going to gain more weight?? That would be terrible... :( any suggestions?

Exercise can make people more hungry and actually gain weight, there have been many huge news coverage stories about this in the past year. Obviously it is healthy to exercise, but not necessary for weight loss. Focus on getting better and just worry about what you eat and you will keep losing. Having to rest might decrease your appetite, so it's actually the perfect time to lose weight. I lost 30 lbs (including the elusive last 10 lbs) without exercising.

I've been fortunate so far as to not have had a serious injury like this, so I don't know how to relate, but I just wanted to say that you shouldn't forget that things could be a lot worse. Even if you do have to take a month off from exercising, it is still only a month in the grand scheme of things. You still have your legs and you'll still do amazing things once you're healed up. I have a feeling you'll be back on the slopes with renewed vigor in no time.

Maybe think of this time to catch up on something you've been putting off, like a few good books, a craft, or make something? Put your time to good use and you'll find happiness.

I hope you have a speedy recovery!

Be sure you eat maintenance while you're injured. If you eat too little, your muscles will waste away.

I see you don't really use your MFP diary though. You might want to think about it to keep track of things while recuperating.

I sprained my ankle 3 wks ago, fell off elliptical, ...just started exercising a little, doing upper body, wrapping my ankle tight for support, I'm back at it, ate crappy while I was down, that stinks, but now I'm almost to where I was, you'll get back to it , just think positive & try to make good choices ( I had 2 b.days- cakefest!) good luck & wrap for support so u dont re injure !

Food that you like is good for you.

Seriously. Eat food you enjoy, but keep the calories and protein at your goal. The rest is mostly irrelevant.

I lost 35 pounds over a 4 month period while recuperating from having both knees replaced - very little exercise beyond walking around my house and getting to PT/

Your body needs and uses a lot of energy to heal. Eat sensibly, get lots of rest, let your body heal. Feel better soon!

I am in a fracture boot right now, this is week 4 =[ it is very extremely frustrating, especially if you're like me and this is the first time you've sort of started to enjoy your workout routine. I find it much harder to stay on track when I'm supposed to be off my foot as much as possible; sitting around goes with snacking in my mind. I guess try not to fall in to that mind-set! And remember it is only temporary and will heal faster if you stay off it/follow doctors' orders.

    Step 1- Get crutches.
Step 2- Move around with them.

I broke my tib/fib skiing when I was in 8th grade and I was on crutches for 3 months. I don't see how this translates to sitting on the couch all the time. You can still burn lots of energy and keep your upper body going strong.

Anything you CAN do? How bad is it? can you do low impact stuff, upper body weights? Injuries are frustrating but you may be able to find a way to work around yours. If not, your best bet is just to eat super healthy and stick to your calories. No reason why you shouldn't be able to keep losing
