You guys I am baffled. I usually eat around my 1200 calories a day. I work out, around 30- 45 min of cardio per day , that excludes about 30-60 min of walking to and from classes depending on the day. I have yet to see a significant weight loss. Every part of my body is fine except around my stomach and hips. I have pretty big hips and a small waist, so I just want to be proportional... I don't eat bread or pasta or red meat. And I dont drink anything besides water....

SO...... what could be wrong???

    I am not sure what would be best for you. However that being said I will say that what helped me was refiguring my calories. I was plateaued for 4 weeks. I decided a few things during that time. I cut sugar nearly completely out. I used stevia in my coffee and I only drink one cup of black coffee anyway so it wasn't to big of a deal. Secondly I checked my calories and ended up deciding to move them up 200 calories. I had more energy almost immediately and to my amazement I was feeling really good. Like I could run and I am not a runner by any means. It took 3 days and I saw loss. I also increased my water but I have a tendency not to drink enough during the week.

    Others will have some thoughts I am sure but that is what helped me.

    I've had the same experience as Eve. I'm currently eating about 2000 calories on my heavy exercise days (which include walking to and from the gym, a 45 min. spin class and lifting for about 25 minutes). On my lighter days (yoga and just the walk) I'm eating around 1800. This is hard to eat all those calories, and it seems counterintuitive...but you've got to stoke the furnace. I am losing weight now, and had hit a six-month plateau where I was "doing everything right".

    More energy, too. Working out is fun now, not torture.

    Try upping your calories little by little, to see what works for you. (we're all different) I was told by a trainer that if you have your calories too low and are working out, you will lose muscle and not fat. (which is very, very bad)

    I had actually tried that. I would eat about 2000 calories a day because I worked out so much... I ended up gaining about 5 pounds. so.... i am going to see a dietitian and see if anything is wrong..

  • I agree, when in doubt consult the experts! This is why I find this website great, you can print out reports and consult them with specialists if needed. :bigsmile:

    Greetings borjanap!

    I'm too new at the weight loss game to offer any advice from experience...I am well studied as of late and agree with the rest of the folks about experimenting with calorie intake in order to stoke the furnace.

    I've also read that the body gets used to your exercise routines and that it is good to change them up frequently.

    I would like to suggest incorporating Bellydance...it is exhilarating! It is always muscle toning and it can be a cardio workout as well when you drill or practice choreography...I fell in love with Bellydance and the dance community...there are many events and shows to attend as well as classes...you really get in tune with your body and spirit...it is a great way to make new friends and network with other women.

    Small waist and large hips are a feminine bonus...be happy with yours!

    It is one of the best for calorie burning...I'm just always trying to get other women interest in bellydance because it has done so much for my self awareness and confidence...plus it is just so much fun.

    I think smessersmith has a good point in that you may need to change up your exercise routine. That doesn't mean stop running. Just try a few things differently. Change up length of running. Do you do many anaerobic work outs? Perhaps throw in lifting weights or doing leg lifts in between short sprints of running. I lost about 10 lbs 2 summers ago (and unfortunately gained them back) and had this exercise routine: MWF Aerobic workout, TuesThurs, lift weights. I didn't even do Cardio everyday. Also the closer you are to your goal weight the more stubborn the weight is. So you may need to increase the amount of time you spend working out. I know, ouch. Your body may have reached it's peak at the rate that your currently going, so exercise wise you may have to increase the challenge. Try something a little longer or a little harder.

    In any case don't get discouraged. You have made it this far and are doing wonderfully. It takes a lot of dedication and motivation to work out everyday and to watch your calories. Just think of how healthy you are right now! Try to see the positives of what your doing instead of the negatives. See it as challenge to overcome because once you do achieve the weight you want it will be that much sweeter.
  • I thought swimming was the best exercise but i could be wrong... but lifting weights helps build muscle and the more muscle you have to more fat you burn. i have also heard that lifting weights is the only way to reshape your body.:smile:

    I actually both lift weights and run and do tread-climber... I am at the gym for at least 1.5hrs 5 days a week. I lose the most when I eat less actually but as soon as I start eating regularly it all comes back. I have always weighed around 140.... I think that's my body's natural weight, but since everyone in my family is tiny I think it would make me less self conscious and I would be happier if I dropped down from 145 to 130. Thanks for the belly dancing tip. We do have classes we can take, so I will try it next semester.
