Night shifts

I work night shifts 9pm - 8am, does anybody else work these type of shifts? How do you go about logging your food/meals? I'm really struggling with keeping track due to eating at strange times. Does anybody have any tips?

Thanks :)

I too work the night shift. I work 7p-7am. I log my meals in just like you would normally on a day you weren't working. When I get up that's breakfast, then I do lunch before leaving for work and if I pack my dinner I usually record it prior to leaving for work and just stick to eating only what I have recorded. I try to eat my dinner by midnight and try to track everything before then so it will show completed. Working nights is alot different and people don't realize what kind of differences we have to deal with.

I occasionally work 7p-7a, I used to do 3 -12's. What worked best for me was sleep to sleep whatever that happened to be. My co-worker that did WW would restart her day at 0000. sometimes she would crack me up waiting for it to be midnight so she could eat.

I think whatever works as long as you are consistent.
  • yessss !!!! I work 8.30 til 7.30 and find it really difficult - for example I had toast with butter and cheese on at 4am today !!!! aaaaaaargh - terrible !! was so hungry !!!! have logged it as my brekkie for today but that doesnt leave me many calories for rest of the day x I've only been doing this one week so getting used to the 1270 cals a day still.
will try to get in a routine where I'm more organised and take food with me thats within my cal limit xx
Add me and we can support each other xx

I work 7p-7am, and I log everything up until 7am for the day before, it takes some getting used to - and sometimes the day after you work you seem to be grossly UNDER your calorie range cause we dont start eating till 4pm:), but it grows on you and you start to find a rhythm. Good luck

    I work 11-7 and I log mine 12am-12am too.

I typically will sleep from 8-830am till 1130 or so when I wake up hungry.. usually eat cereal. Sleep till 1-2 and maybe have a snack or wait till dinner around 5ish, workout at 8, go to work at 11 and have a snack around 1130. another snack/minimeal around 230/3 and will sometimes eat a 'breakfast' around 5/530.

I also work 7p-7a. My diary is set in time increments starting and ending at Midnight. I eat dinner before work at around 6 pm, then have a snack before midnight, eat lunch sometime around 2 am, another snack around 5 am, eat breakfast when I get home, sleep, then get up and start all over again. So far, so good!

I had a few of my night shift buddies who would do the same thing, wait until midnight before they could eat again. LOL:bigsmile:

I normally work 4-2:30am but I do cover night shift every so often [such as this week]. I've found that from when I wake up to when I go to sleep works for me. My sister who regularly works night shift does midnight to midnight and she's changed her diary headings to reflect that. [Instead of Breakfast/lunch/dinner, she put it in times, so for her its 12am -6am, 6am-12pm, 12pm-6pm, and 6pm-12am].
  • I used to start a new day at midnight with whatever i ate after midnight going in the breakfast part of the next day. Its whatever makes sense to you really.
