Has anyone else decided to quit drinking alcohol because of the calories?

Not quit - but cut down a lot. It's not the calories in the booze, it's the snacks I want afterwards that do damage!0

I've definitely limited my intake, but not quit completely ... I still like my beer. However, when I do drink beer now, I typically have a Bud select 55 - only 55 calories per bottle. I haven't had any other type of drink though.0

No, I cut back though.
25 ml of vodka (56 cals) and Sprite Zero (0 cals). Makes me :happy:0 -
Not really...If I really want a drink at a gathering I usually will pick the new select 55 beer. It only has 55 calories.
And I can usually have 1-2 without feeling guilty. If I know I am going out I will exercise an extra 1/2 hour.

That's the plan for tomorrow night! (Maybe even two, three... well I have been doing these exams for what seems like months!!)0 -
Pretty much. I rarely drink. I dont like the way I feel afterwards, I feel wore out. Im 23 so my friends drink a lot lol, so I will have some red wine once in a whillle0

YES! ha with a beer being about 250 cals i can only afford to have one if i actually want to eat
But i now drink a vodka or white spirit (about 50cals) with diet coke/lemonade - i can get away with having a couple then!!!
Forget putting the prices up or the drinking age up - put calories on there!! That would put a fair few people off!0 -
I had some dragonberry rum with diet sierra mist this weekend. I have to say I did not enjoy it as much as I used to. I kept thinking about the wasted calories! Just two ounces of the rum is 156 calories. So for me it's not worth it.
However... I wonder if I like vodka! LoL I might try it sometime.0 -
Not quit either, just cut down and make sure on the days I have a beer I still stay in my calorie range. Hummm, find myself working out more before so I can spare more calories, now what does that say, :drinker:0

I've definitely cut back. My rule is that I am only going to drink Friday and Saturday nights, at a social event. Not only will this help me lose weight, it will prevent me from drinking alone :P0
-
No, I haven't stopped. I have cut down tremendously. I only allow myself a glass or two of wine on one weekend night.0

I found a great drink at the weekend whilst at a wedding vodka, lime juice and soda water with ice - really yummy and very refreshing and I didnt have the urge to snack which I do when I have a beer or wine ... gets my vote ! lol0

I don't drink as much as I used to, but even then it was social drinking....now if I'm at a party, an MGD 64 or bud select 55, sometimes a lite lime will do, but I really try limiting them, not so much because of the calorie intake, but the fact it really slows your system down, dries you out, and just makes ya feel like garbage the next morning0

You've GOT to be kidding me  :noway:
I agree with heebiejeebie - it's not just the alchohol, it the munching it leads to...

I am going to go out on a limb here and say that Vodka (unflavored) doesn't really have a taste. Oh you taste it but it's not like whiskey, rum, gin as far as taste, it fairly tasteless.0 -
I too had to cut back, but it is so hard during the summer cuz nothing is better than a ice cold one on the boat!! It definately sabbotages the weight loss tho!!0
-
i love just one or 2 WKD blues with a glass of ice. So refreshing but like 256 calories or something like that. vodka just doesnt do the same. maybe thats why im at a plateau...............dunno cud i do without it helps me over a hard week and without it i might:sad:0

Chardonnay is the way to go its only 90 cals for 8 oz and its so relaxing. Its a pick me up when im unwinding for the day and having a bubble bath or a social gathering, it puts a smile on my face.0

I now measure my wine to match 1 serving and I have really reduced how much Coke Zero because I saw how much sodium was in it. I now go for iced water and iced tea when I am hot.0
-
I cut back to where I only drink on the weekends OR if it is a special ocassion. That makes me sound like a lush but typically I would have one glass of good wine every evening.0
-
Basically, yeah. I have never been a big drinker but I like the occasional glass of wine with dinner or a beer on the patio in the summer. However, these days it just isn't worth the calories. I would rather have chocolate or some ice cream as a treat as that is much more to my liking than alcohol.0

Think after my hols im going to try and give alcohol up as i only really enjoy Baileys.Must be the most fattening drink ever.So going to go tetotal for a couple of weeks to see if it makes a ifference to the weight loss.0
-
I still have my glass of red wine in the evening after work.0

Vodka, soda water and a lime. Light, refreshing and only calories are vodka.
During the first few weeks of trying to loose weight I have cut all alcohol. Helps cut out a TON of empty calories and makes me feel good to want to go out and exercise every day (plus no late night munchies!!). Once my tolerance drops down a bit and I'm on a more regular workout and eating plan, I'll slowly introduce a drink here and there. If drinking is something you enjoy, you shouldn't completely deprive yourself (that's how and why diets fail). All things in moderation0 -

100% Agree!!!!!0 -
No, but I have cut back in a huge way!
I live in the Middle East and the social scene here is all about alcohol and eating... the ex pats lifestyle and parties are pretty wild! And I thought I'd seen it all living in London for 15 yrs!
I've had to give up the Mojito's tho... they are a killer! I had 3 last weekend at dinner and it was only when I went to do the calorie count on here that I realised 3 of them came to 450 calories!!!
So, it's back to the odd glass of champagne, or vodka and diet coke, vodka, lime and soda!!0 -
I don't drink. I quit 30 years ago and I don't even like alcohol any more. On the other hand, if I'm with company on a nice summer evening, I will drink a beer, a glass of wine or some ouzo. I might even drink a cocktail if I'm at a bar. The point is, I don't believe in denying yourself anything, only inbeing reasonable about it.0
-
I drink very little, and the calories are one good reason. I'd rather eat them then drink them.0
-
So what is a good brand of Vodka? I wonder if it would be good with diet sierra mist and a splash of crystal light.0
-
For the first two months on MFP, I cut back to maybe one glass of wine every other week at a social occasion. Now, as I am trained to log in all my calories and made my original goal, I have a glass or two every other day, which turns out not to be all that many calories. What was sabotaging me before were the salty things I would eat along with the wine, which I now can go without. I do love almonds but will have them separately as a snack. Wine is one of the pleasures in life, and I want to continue to enjoy it in moderation.
But one confession: I LOVE blueberry lager and have two left in the fridge. I checked the calories--260--gasp!!!--so I will have to exercise bigtime to allow myself one!!!!0
