BS excuses you made for yourself

So, what were the BS excuses you made for yourself to not workout? And how did you overcome them?
I had lots of excuses that stopped me for a long time. Then just before Thanksgiving last year I decided it was time to just shut up and do it. Here's a sampling of my excuses, and the 'talking to' I gave myself -
Excuse : I have to go buy some workout clothes before I can start (which I would then conveniently forget).
Answer : BS - throw on a pair of old dobok pants and a T-shirt. Now shut up and do it.
Excuse : I need a new pair of running shoes.
Answer : BS - you can at least walk in just your regular shoes. Besides, what's wrong with your old sneakers which have been in the closet for years? Now shut up and do it.
Excuse : I don't have a gym membership.
Answer : BS - Since when did you need that to go for a daily walk? All you need is functional legs. Now shut up and do it.
Excuse : But, but, but my knees
Answer : BS - You've known for years that your knee issues are a muscle imbalance, and that the only way to fix that is working out. Now shut up and do it.
Excuse : I need to move on from just walking, but I don't have a gym membership.
Answer : BS - The community gym is five minutes walk away, and you've had a membership included in the dues for six years. Now shut up and do it.
Excuse : I've never really liked working out for the sake of it, I like a goal, like with martial arts.
Answer : BS - Your excuse for not going back to martial arts is that you're embarrassed that you've got fat, lazy and out of shape. Now shut up and do it.

Excuse: But I don't have time because I've got to watch this Law and Order rerun for the 8th time.
Answer: There is a TV in the same room as the treadmill, lazy.
Excuse: But I really like food and I don't like to diet.
Answer: You can still eat all the foods you like, but you don't need to eat 4 servings of them. You don't need the whole box of Oreos, 3 or 4 are plenty
Excuse: But my feet/ankles/knees/boobs hurt when I exercise.
Answer: Get over it.
Excuse: But playing around on facebook is way more fun than exercising.
Answer: Stop being such a loser and trade 20 measly minutes of your facebook time for exercise, dummy.0 -
It's ok you were just nervous. It happens to all guys occasionally0

BS excuse - I'm too tired
Answer - You're tired because you are fat, now shut up and do it.0 -
I hurt my back in the fall, so that was a valid excuse for a few days but then....
Excuse: I want to make sure my back is all better before I exercise again.
Answer: Your back has been 100% for a while now. Go do it.
Excuse: I feel a little sleepy.
Answer: So what? Get out of bed.
Excuse: I get self conscious working out in front of other people.
Answer: So work out at home while everyone is sleeping.
Excuse: I'd exercise, but I'd rather hang out with Hubby and play video games.
Answer: And your clothes are too small because you did what? Get up early and go do it!0 -

My fave!0 -
Excuse: I have my period.
Answer: Put your Big Girl panties on and MAN UP!
(Acutal conversation with myself last night, LOL!)0 -
Excuse: I did PT in college/the Army for 9 years, I've done enough.
Answer: Look at your fat belly in the mirror and tell me you've done enough.
Excuse: Plenty of NFL/NCAA football players are 6'4", 210.
Answer: Those people have about 10% body fat, not 30% body fat!0 -
There was always an excuse- until I decided to hold myself accountable. I became a group fitness instructor, I have to go to classes, and I have to give 100% just to get 30% out of my participants.
Thanks to this, I am now a fitness junkie!!!
I had bad knees too- there are some things I still can't do or it will aggrivate them, but being 150 lbs overweight was the worst thing I could do for my bad knees.
There are no acceptable excuses- don't worry, if you can't make time for fitness, your body will make time for illness0 -

Excuse: I wore my only clean workout clothes yesterday.

Excuse: Exercise hurts my knees.
Answer: It hurts because they aren't used to moving! Get them back in motion!
Excuse: I don't feel like it.
Answer: Don't waste the money that the gym is automatically withdrawing every month, woman! The minute you get there you always "feel like it."
Excuse: My boobs are too big. They shake and it hurts.
Answer: You spend $60 on regular bras, drop some cash on a sports bra that will do you some good. They'll never get smaller otherwise.
Excuse: I am not in shape, and I don't like other people at the gym watching me be weak and fat.

It's not very often I can say LOL on the internet, and really, honestly mean it. Seriously, I am laughing my backside off right now. Thank you. :laugh:0 -
I remeber I was on another social forum years back talking about how I never had time to work out.
Seriously? I was SITTING ON MY BUTT, WASTING THE TIME POSTING ABOUT HOW I NEVER HAD TIME!
Had someone call me on it, hung my head in shame, and decided that would never happen again.0 -
Excuse: You don't need to lose weight, you already have a wife
Answer: And I bet she loves sleeping with a fat b*stard0 -

Yup. One of the things I've started frequently saying to myself is "It's not that you don't have time. It's that you choose to spend the time doing something else."
Heck, even forget about TV and the internet - how many people lie in on the weekends and sleep 10+ hours?0 -
I'm not in good enough shape to go to the gym0
-
... how many people lie in on the weekends and sleep 10+ hours?
Man, I wish. I am up at our normally weekday time no matter what. I do get in a few naps when I can though. I won't knock anyone for sleep, cuz I am jealous!0 -
Copy/pasting my profile here
These are my excuses as to why I got into such bad shape. Honest truth time for me
- Laziness. I was too lazy to move and make a change in my lifestyle. Fast food (which I hate btw, I really hate most of the food from BK and McD's) was just easier even though cooking for myself wouldve been cheaper and healthier.
- Excuses. I made excuses. I will do this some other time. I will do it starting tomorrow. Oh I ate bad today? I will recover tomorrow by not eating and ofcourse that led to binging
- video game addiction: World of Warcraft. I cannot even begin to explain how much that game have ruined my life, not just health wise but everything. I know I'm to blame but that game alone have ruined the last atleast 4 years of my life.
- being a coward: Whenever I got hit by stress, I tried to confide in food or cigarettes. I just didnt wanted to face my troubles like a man but in the end, I had to anyways. Stress didnt went away because of eating or smoking but it sure did put on some weight.
- Just not stopping: I couldve stopped with the bad habits when I hit 200, I was aware of the weight issue. I couldve stopped at 220, 240, 250, 270, and now I'm at 280. Each time I knew what was up but I didnt do anything about it. I was ok with the fat man in the mirror. I hated him but I didnt wanted to do anything to change it
I am now in charge of my own faults and failures. I will try my best. I urge my friends on MFP to not let me get off the course. I have a few real life friends who i've asked to do the same. Hopefully, this time I will conquer my own mind.0 -
I hate excuses! They're a human invention for covering up our weaknesses.
My best one was not having time. BS! I didn't know what NOT having time really was. In the last two years I have had less free time than ever before and I work out EVERY day. I just sacrifice some pillow time to make it happen.
A friend of mine says to replace the phrase "I don't have time" with "It's not a priority" whenever you want to use lack of time as your excuse and see how it pans out... It makes you realize that time isn't the issue. Priorities are.0 -
For a long time I kidded myself that because I still lifted and played some 5 a side football ( which I cruised through ) I was still " fit for my size "
Getting over it was easy. The football team I coach had a major injury crisis one week and I had to play at a competitive level again. It was a wake up call for me. 6 years ago I would have been one of the better players on the pitch, last year I was an embarrassment.
It wasn't my answer - but it was THE answer.0 -

"If you can’t spend the time or money to eat real food, get a good night of sleep and exercise, what are you spending your time and money on?" quoted from this:
http://whole9life.com/2013/02/simplify-for-your-health-a-guest-post-from-the-minimalist-mom/
...really makes you think about your priorities. I read this yesterday and really got to thinking about how I can make my health even more of a priority.0 -
Excuse: The dryer keeps shrinking these pants
Answer: Your *kitten* just got bigger...push back from the table, fatso0 -

ahhhh yes!! THIS! LOL. Now I walk around holding my pants up! (cause even my belts are too big)LOL I can't afford the new wardrobe I need, but at least it's in the right direction this time!! LOL
Here's another one:
Excuse: I don't want to sweat in front of people
Answer: BS! Did you ever look at peoples shirts at the gym?? No one is looking at yours either! Now shut up and do it! LOL
Or
working out is hard..
DUH! LOL0
