Question about working out in segments...

Today, instead of working out on the stationary bike 45 mins non-stop, I am doing it 5 times for eight minutes each. Is that okay or is it pointless? Just not feeling very motivated today.

Any bit of exercise counts. As long as you're getting your heart rate up each time, I don't see any issue with it!

I think its ok. You can gradually work up to more at a time. I don't work out for long periods of time, but do 2 or 3 smaller workouts a day. Whatever you can work in.

i read an article in some magazine or another last week that said working out in 10 min sessions is better bc it keeps your metabolism going and you tend not to over eat as much bc if u work out for an hr you feel you earned it. idk if thats true...if i work out longer i feel more like i accomplished something...but true or not, id say any activity is better than nothing so if thats the way you want to do it, go for it

sounds pretty good to me. is it a spinning bike?

try this: warm up for like, 8 minutes, then do two minutes of high resistance standing up and going hard. then do 6 minutes sitting down, lower resistance. then repeat this like, 5-6 times. then cool down.

I think you would be better with 4-10 min segments or even 3 12 min segments..just to insure the heart rate gets up to an adequate level...BUT with that said...any extra moving you do on any given day is better than not moving at all..you might also be surprised that the permission to break the workout into segments and have an easy day might take some pressure off and you start an 8 min segment and end up doing all 40 mins...

my biochemistry professor said that recent studies disproved the old theory of long cardio and said every little bit of cardio through out the day adds up to the same benefit!
