No matter what I get so hungry at night then end up snacking like crazy it's a cycle I have to break. Open to suggestions/strategeis

I have the same problem. Plus I have trouble sleeping through the night. So if I wake up I go to the kitchen and start looking for something to eat. If I take my Ambien there's no telling what kind of weird concoction I might come up with :) If I think of any way to fight the nighttime munchies I'll let you know.
  • I try to keep less junk & highly processed foods around so that I'm less likely to eat them. I also try to snack on fruits instead, if I really want something to eat.

Me too! I do so good all day, and then I eat like a maniac at night!! Gosh, it's never easy!
  • If you're honestly that hungry at night, are you sure you're eating enough during the day?

Plan to eat more food at night and less in the day.

I'm rarely hungry - night or day. I've been diabetic so long I've developed a condition called gastroparesis which affects the nerves in my stomach - essentially paralyzing them. I would have to go a very long time without eating before I'd recognize the symptoms of hunger. My nighttime eating is done more out of boredom and habit. I stay up till midnight most nights and that's about 6 hours past my dinnertime. I try to limit my night snacks to more protein and less carbs.

I do not buy anything that I might want to eat at night ( like potato chips...I can finish one bag and dip all on my own....)

And I try to sip a hot drink. To me it is a similar mindless habit like eating in front of TV at night. Hot tea has no calories, I also developed a taste for spicy unsweetened hot chocolate. The latter us about 120 cals. I do it if I have calories left.
